Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Setting The Table For A Few Alligators

Posted 05-17-2024 at 07:59 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Just think: In a few short days, your writer will be eating alligator in one place and making eye contact with a few others. Must be time for another road trip.

Case has Cajun Country on his mind, and so, that's where I head to on Sunday. Louisiana is home to alligators, zydeco, and meat pies. So will my dinner tables on America's roads. And I've decided to visit a swamp and take a tour of one. After a return visit to Natchitoches, I'll head down...

More Highway Talk: OKC Sees New Interstate Signage On Turnpikes And Other Roads

Posted 05-12-2024 at 03:58 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Unlikely, you say. This writer and road fanatic swore he hasn't heard any rumors, but he didn't expect this.

You see, the Oklahoma City road landscape has significantly changed in a big way. Some of the existing roads now have new designations. I'd never seriously think this would happen, and I thought there might have been rumors previously about such changes like I'm about to share. Regardless, back in March, the powers that be have determined the...

I-69 Update: Official Thinks Earlier Completion Of 69E Could Be Possible

Posted 05-12-2024 at 07:40 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The Interstate 69 network of roads in the state of Texas is taking quite a while. There is, however, one guy in South Texas who believes that one part of the three branches in that sector of the state could possibly see completion sooner than what's been projected.

The segment in question is I-69E from the I-37 interchange at Calallen all the way down to its southern terminus near the Mexico border. Pete Sepulveda, a former Cameron County judge, has been actively...

Case's English Lesson: Use That Apostrophe

Posted 05-12-2024 at 06:45 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Let me preface first with this: I don't profess to be an English major. There. Now that the know-it-all labeling is officially off of me , let me then proceed with what I'd like to proceed with.

I can read, and I can see where English on the minds of many a casual passerby goes bad. And in the country in which I live, America, we just do not do English well. We just flat don't. I may have shared before on this blog page about reading people's comments...

I Err To The Side Of Caution, But Ben Verlander May Get It Right

Posted 05-10-2024 at 08:07 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Every now and then, I like to pull up YouTube, even on my smartphone. There, what I'd often go to is a podcast hosted by Ben Verlander and Alex Curry to get a little baseball opinion fix. Ben, as some of you may know, is the brother of current Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander.

And if you've seen Ben's baseball shows, you know that he's opinionated. I especially like his take on my Houston Astros. You see, once upon a time, the Astros have been...
