Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A New Way To Confirm If Your Order Is Right

Posted 07-14-2017 at 04:37 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

With technology continuing to evolve, don't you think maybe we need a new way to check if our fast food order is right.............without having to look inside the wrapper?

Face it, sports fans; confirmation is everything. Sometimes, you can go into the drive-thru or carry-out at your favorite fast food place when they think they have the order right. But what if you don't? So, Ol' Case thought of something.

Because I care about people...

True Grid? Texas' Street Patterns Mostly Don't Fool With It

Posted 07-09-2017 at 10:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's interesting how, in some states, you have cities and towns that like to stick with a grid concept in their street and highway planning. If you go to, say, Oklahoma, you will find that many of that state's metropolises, large or small, tend to incorporate such a concept.

But in a place like Dallas, Texas, well, forget it. Grids just don't cut the mustard here. Heck, there aren't even any convergence points for block numbers (transitions from east/west...

But, Mr Fertitta, You Can't Change The Recipe

Posted 07-06-2017 at 05:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I'd have to lightheartedly say that this is a minor issue. In fact, the changes are really very subtle that many would not know the difference between the before and the after.

Not too long ago, one of the members of the wait staff at Saltgrass Steak House told me that they were no longer using Shiner Bock beer as part of their complementary bread's recipe. So, now, we cannot really call it Shiner Bock Bread. The funny thing is, why change it? Especially in...

Happy Fourth, Everyone - Just Glad We Still Can

Posted 07-04-2017 at 04:18 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Happy birthday to America today!

And, also, a happy July 4th to everybody in this, the greatest nation on Earth. Enjoy a good parade or a good burger today. Maybe tonight, I'll get to go see some fireworks going off somewhere. Although many parades are going on in a number of places today, I'll be at work until early afternoon. But, thanks to YouTube, I can make up for it on these parades.

Whatever you do today, please take time and...

Case's Vacation Journal: Eventful Trip

Posted 06-29-2017 at 08:52 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, this road trip had a book written about it in somebody's mind. A lot of things have been happening here in Lubbock, Texas.

Besides needing a spatula, some eggs, and bacon to fry in a hot parking lot (Try a high of 107 in town today!), I became one of the first drivers on a new set of mainlanes on the Marsha Sharp Freeway (U.S. Highway 82) between Milwaukee Avenue and the Wolfforth city limits. Yes, it's happened very quickly, as I saw work crews working...
