Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

No matter what city you travel to in the state of Texas, you will find road construction. It's seemingly endless. You might think that some of us are sentenced to having permanent construction zones the way we operate here.

Go to any place in Texas. Dallas. Fort Worth. Houston. Austin. San Antonio. Lubbock. Amarillo. El Paso. Go to any of them, and you will see some kind of new work in progress, nearing completion, or in the design stage. ...

Here's An Idea For O'Reilly: One America News

Posted 05-02-2017 at 04:23 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There's still a place for Bill O'Reilly on television. So he won't be on Fox News Channel anymore. Fine. He's made some mistakes and taken some serious missteps, all the while experiencing success with what, until recently, had been cable television's number one program. Okay, then. Let's forgive and forget all that's happened and let's move on. Let him have his space. Now, hopefully, if he's apologized and had asked for forgiveness, then he'll get his marbles together...

Coffee Should Be Enjoyed In A Cup, Not Your Lap

Posted 04-30-2017 at 10:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Restaurants are funny things. As much as I love going out to places and enjoying great food, great iced tea, and great coffee, I still get a kick out of the servers of breakfast who have a dilly of a time with the aforementioned coffee and the pot where it resides.

Gotta love them sometimes. I have had waiters/waitresses bring that morning joy in a spout, and then wildly pour the joe into the cup..........and onto the table.................aaaaaaaaaaaand, ...

Oldies On My Mind: Reminiscing With Skip And Flip

Posted 04-29-2017 at 10:45 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Some things in your life, well, you've just got to have. There are those moments when you think of a radio station from a bygone day, and you remember the music which played on it.

Such is the case with a radio station that no longer broadcasts an oldies format in Lubbock, and it was no ordinary station at the time, but it served its purpose. I'm reminded of station KDAV-AM (1590), which, for a period of about fifteen years, played a very local oldies format....

On The Road Again: Have To Get To Fiesta

Posted 04-23-2017 at 07:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Let's face it, sports fans; it's been too long. Way too long. Well, I suppose it's time to do something about it.

And, so, Ol' Case will hit the road tomorrow. There's a Fiesta celebration with my name on it.

San Antonio will be where I call home for the next three days and a few familiar eating places will await my arrival. Finishing touches on packing are taking place. The legendary Riverwalk district will be rife with much activity that...
