Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Skimming Through The Cream: Keeping A Child Contained In This Age

Posted 02-23-2013 at 12:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And it was a very nice breakfast this morning at the Starwood Cafe in beautiful Frisco, Texas, what with the most tasty Denver omelette a guy can possibly have. But sometimes, even this writer can't always escape bizarre happenings and bouts with the unusual.

Such a case actually occurred at the restaurant before I was served my grub, but at least, I enjoyed my cup of the best restaurant coffee I've ever experienced. At the table one spot over from where I was seated,...

Well, So Much For Weather Hype....

Posted 02-21-2013 at 08:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Texas weather does get a little funny now and then. In many cases, it can be downright crazy and downright unpredictable. But there are going to be those times when meteorologists and Mother Nature tend to play with your emotions. I had gone to work prepared like a lot of other folks did. The forecast did call for a 100 percent chance of thunderstorms. That would be rain, thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and maybe some small hail.

Didn't happen. ...

Cousin Turns Fiddy Next Weekend

Posted 02-16-2013 at 08:28 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

They say a person's age is nothing to be ashamed of. As a matter of fact, it was actress Angie Dickinson who mentioned something of the sort in an article written about her years ago. A person's age is also nothing any of us can do anything about.

That said, I have a cousin that is going to be turning the big 5-0 next weekend. We'll have a few folks on hand at his house where his girlfriend will be hosting the grand event. I'm planning on going there myself. Hard...

I-69 Texas Update: H-Town's Southwest Side To See New Signage

Posted 02-12-2013 at 06:14 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 02-12-2013 at 06:25 PM by case44

Last fall, I told you about the progress of the new Interstate 69 and its initial entry into Houston, Texas. First, it was a 35-mile stretch of the Eastex Freeway (U.S. Highway 59) from the North Loop (Interstate 610) to the town of Splendora. And I also mentioned that two more segments were awaiting FHWA approval and designation as an interstate.

That was then.

Last week, the announcement was made that one of the other stretches, this time, a 28-mile...

In The Week Ahead, The Calendar Demonstrates Happenstance

Posted 02-09-2013 at 07:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Four things are going to come together that you probably never thought would all fall, but it's just the way the calendar had it going in. Admittedly, some of those things, we don't pay any of them a second or third thought. Spring training will be commencing shortly, but in this post with the subject at hand, that's not important now.

Have you looked at your calendar lately? Yes, it's that thing you hang in the kitchen, but take a really good look at it....
