Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Posted 04-23-2013 at 08:08 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

There is red-hot anticipation in Texas for a big event for the Red-Headed Stranger. And in Austin, he's not really a stranger at all, but an ambassador. He's known to all Texans simply as Willie.

Country legend Willie Nelson is going to have a birthday this next week. Not just any birthday, but an 80-year-young birthday! Eighty years of age. Can you believe it? Deejays, fellow country artists, and music lovers will be planning on gathering at The Backyard...

Changes On The Horizon For The Casester

People have always said that change is good. And other times, you've heard people say that they don't like change. Such things are always the case with the course of life. Well, with the things in my life that need a little restructuring, sometimes I'll probably hear it from both sides.

In the coming days and weeks, Ol' Case has a few traditions that will end, but some new ones will be beginning. This has been thought about for some time, but I believe...

Food At Work Parties Can Become More Than I Can Chew

Posted 04-19-2013 at 05:30 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

With the rigors and demands that come from work, every now and then, you need a little respite from reality. Usually, that would be vacation, but in this latest installment, we're going to look at something else. And you don't have to leave work to do this.

We had a potluck in the middle of last week, and it went well. Some people on my shift can't cook, so they must improvise with store-bought items or something someone else made. You can just imagine the...

Austin's KOKE-FM Coming Into Its Own Now - And Sounding Great!

Posted 04-13-2013 at 10:10 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Well, it looks like Austin radio has some real competition in the country music field now. Last summer's rebirth of KOKE-FM (99.3 and 98.5) signaled the dawn of a new era on Austin's airwaves when Eric Raines, "Barbecue" Bob Cole, and Tom Allen returned to FM life.

Local radio can still work again.

Judging from the recent ratings, KOKE-FM, admittedly, still has a mountain to climb. But they do have some loyal listeners, particularly...

Fortunately, after reading some stuff on the internet this morning, I'm glad I've already finished my coffee. I'll tell you about the surprise from Southeast Texas that would have had me spew my coffee out. Hi, again, everyone! You can just see what we have not done in too long. I've got to do some scattershooting for you right here, and it just kills me to put it off any longer, so here I go....

Wonder how many TV viewers in Houston...
