Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Vacation Plans For Case Nearly Upon Us

Posted 03-09-2013 at 08:51 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

This again??! Yes, this again. As a matter of fact, it's already been six months since my last venture onto Texas interstates and byways. And now, it's time to do it again.

My latest excursion will take me mostly to the hinterlands. I'll have the delicate combination of small city, small town, and big city, with 340 miles of highway mixed in for the ultimate road trip. And this will all be explored in a five-day period. Where will I be going? ...

Ryan Leaving Rangerland? That May Or May Not Open Up A Door In Houston

Posted 03-09-2013 at 07:04 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I've always been one of those peeps that tell you to 'never say never'. With the tale of two major league baseball teams in Texas, we currently have the penthouse (Texas Rangers) and the outhouse (Houston Astros). The former has gone from one of baseball's worst franchises to one of its better-run teams and has been consistently contending in the last five years. The latter has just fallen off the horse and is trying to get back in the saddle a mere seven years after its only World Series...

Well, This Bird Won't Fly -- Or Will It?

Posted 03-01-2013 at 05:11 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your friendly neighborhood blogger just had some experiences with a few fine-feathered friends not too long ago. Okay, they aren't really friends. More like pests, if you please.

It's just that birds just seemed to be everywhere near me in the past two weeks, and often in the wrong places. First, last week in beautiful Frisco, Texas, a group of birds (they may have been geese as large as they were) were walking across Parkwood Boulevard right in front of Stonebriar...

Skimming Through The Cream: Keeping A Child Contained In This Age

Posted 02-23-2013 at 12:26 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

And it was a very nice breakfast this morning at the Starwood Cafe in beautiful Frisco, Texas, what with the most tasty Denver omelette a guy can possibly have. But sometimes, even this writer can't always escape bizarre happenings and bouts with the unusual.

Such a case actually occurred at the restaurant before I was served my grub, but at least, I enjoyed my cup of the best restaurant coffee I've ever experienced. At the table one spot over from where I was seated,...

Well, So Much For Weather Hype....

Posted 02-21-2013 at 08:03 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Texas weather does get a little funny now and then. In many cases, it can be downright crazy and downright unpredictable. But there are going to be those times when meteorologists and Mother Nature tend to play with your emotions. I had gone to work prepared like a lot of other folks did. The forecast did call for a 100 percent chance of thunderstorms. That would be rain, thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and maybe some small hail.

Didn't happen. ...
