Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

There Is A Way Out Of This Mess

Our great America is faced with challenges, both big and small. It's faced with a lot of uncertainty because of some crazy changes that have taken place in the last four and a half years. Where do I begin with the mess we're in?

Anymore, I can't help but want to pray for people's dire situations. I may not see those things too much in my home state of Texas, but it's much more serious in other states. Our nation's economy has not improved; in fact, it's a lot...

Labor Day? Wasn't Yesterday Memorial Day?

Posted 08-27-2013 at 02:29 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I often come on here and ramble about how time flies, and here it is again. This coming Monday is going to be Labor Day once more. Man! Can you just believe that it seemed like yesterday was the 4th of July and Memorial Day seemed like the day before?

The end of the summer season already. I mean, so what if I am going to South Padre Island in October? Big deal. I live in a state where it's going to be warm all the way through to Thanksgiving. ...

Olbermann Back On At ESPN --- And It's About Time

Posted 08-25-2013 at 06:12 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Many moons ago, two guys helped make a certain program called "Sportscenter" a household name in American TV lore. Their gathering used to be known as The Big Show, and it literally was for as long as those two were together.

Sportscenter meant Keith Olbermann and Dan Patrick five nights a week (well, sometimes, if they're not paired with Kenny Mayne, Gary Miller, Charley Steiner, Linda Cohn, and countless others). Their pairing was especially true on...

Going Up? Hotel Elevators Sure Are Slow

Posted 08-17-2013 at 06:45 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's been a month since I've been in one. And next Friday, I'm going to be in another one. When it comes to hotel elevators, it seems like they were purposefully designed to make a guest wait an eternity to get to the third floor from the main lobby.

That was the experience I had in Lubbock on my recent trip, but it's not just that stop. I've had this type of thing at other places (and different chains, too) in the years I've traveled. Now, I don't have an easy...

Clippers On My Own Buzz Hair

Posted 08-11-2013 at 04:02 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Anyone can find ways to save money on things he or she really would rather not pay same for. Such is the case with things like my own hair. For many years, I had gone to hair stylists and gotten an easy haircut for that buzz hair on top of my potato-shaped head. Prices have always ranged from fifteen to thirty dollars.

Well, any time I can save that amount of green, I can. Besides, I see nothing wrong with using a Wahl custom shaver on my head. It's not...
