Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

So The Astros Will Lose 100 Games Again, But What's Next?

Posted 09-13-2013 at 06:50 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It's inevitable. Again. That's the pain you get when you rebuild a baseball club with young talent. Team efforts win ballgames, not just talent alone. The Houston Astros are just in the process of seeing who can deliver and who can't. For the present tense, we're looking at 100 losses again, and for the third time in franchise history and third year in a row.

Look at the players that came into play during the course of the 2013 regular season. Brad Peacock,...

Lubbock-Based United In A Shocking Business Decision

Posted 09-09-2013 at 07:11 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

My jaw dropped when I saw this article. We'll probably be seeing threads about it real soon on City-Data, but I'll let you folks out there read this bit about a West Texas supermarket chain being bought out by a grocer who I thought was pulling out of Texas.

Here's the link. I'll let you lactate on this for a little while.

Sometimes The Folks At Work Need Extra Help, And Sometimes....

Posted 09-06-2013 at 09:04 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

......they don't. Look, it was worth a try, with me calling the guys at work this morning to see if they need an extra hand for the second half of the day shift. So what if it was one of my days off? Case needs a little cash. Plus, if things were to get busy and too overwhelming for the crew, I'd offer to go and try to help.

Turns out the lead didn't need help despite only three dispatchers on hand (ideally, they need four or five, but work volume...

I-69 Update: Lufkin And Nac Have Selected Paths

Posted 09-06-2013 at 12:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 09-06-2013 at 01:04 PM by case44

East Texas has just seen a significant step taken much closer to getting Interstate 69 traversing through the Piney Woods. Officials in Lufkin and Nacogdoches have just come to a deal in recommending specific final routes of the new interstate as it would be aligned.

The link from the TTC and the I-69 Alliance is right here: Committees Recommend I-69 Routes at Nacogdoches and Lufkin

It's about time for those places to come into the fold. My prediction...

Happy Travels To You As Summer Ends

Posted 08-30-2013 at 08:05 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

I know that school has started by now, but, still, we've got Labor Day weekend upon us. There are some people out there who I know are trying to get one last road trip out of their systems while summer unofficially nears its end.

Some might be camping out at a state park somewhere, or others might be venturing off to a beach or a lake. Can you say "Surf's up!!"? Couples are probably out and about renewing their vows or going on a romantic vacation....
