Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

I Have Proclaimed This Week As My Own Personal Burger Week

Never mind that tomorrow just happens to be National Elephant Day. And so what if National Hamburger Day was back in May? I've got an event to go to this Saturday that is sure to be memorable. There's a thing going on in Athens, Texas, this coming Saturday, and that's the Uncle Fletch Hamburger Festival.

His name was Fletcher Davis, and all hamburger fans have him to thank, because it was he who invented and developed the delicacy in Athens many moons ago. ...

America Under Assault: What Some Have Said

Posted 09-19-2015 at 11:51 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

We live in a nation that is not the same as it was before. As proud as I am to be an American and live in America, I cannot ignore the fact that it is under attack. It is under assault by members of our U.S. government. It's under attack by Democrats who don't think the way leftists of fifty years ago thought or believed, not mostly, anyway. It's even under siege by some moderate Republicans who've decided that they're not going to stand up to the principles that made this party a great...

I-69 Update: Signs Slow To Come Up In The Valley

It's been well-documented that the Texas Department of Transportation is out of money. I've also heard that, after this year, they'll have some funds to take care of the most urgent needs, be it construction or maintenance.

That said, all it's taken is a Google Map visit, and the folks at Googleville have finally made some updates to the picture frames in their Street View section. Since I'll be traveling down to the Rio Grande Valley in two weeks for R &...

Wishing A Friend A Very Happy Birthday

Posted 09-09-2015 at 06:10 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

She'll probably get a card from one of the dispatch leads soon, signed gratuitously by many co-workers and management. She's got a birthday coming up on Monday. And she'll take that day off to celebrate with family and her 2-year-old son. Who could possibly blame her?

All the things my co-workers are anticipating will not stop this writer from getting my co-worker friend her own card, ..........exclusively from The Casester. Hallmark, here I come!

Easy Does It? Well, Even Sirius XM Couldn't Hang On

Posted 09-05-2015 at 08:20 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Many moons ago, long before there was a Sirius or an XM, radio used to have a thing called the easy listening format, and it was usually heard on what used to be a new phenomenon known as FM. And we used to give that format labels, often referring to it as "elevator music". You also hear this to be called beautiful music.

It used to be, in many cities, that you'd have about three or four such stations on FM using that format. That was back in the 1970s...
