Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Older I Get, The More It Becomes Urgent

Posted 05-01-2015 at 09:45 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

For the past 8 years, it's become routine in the Case way of life to get a certain medical procedure done to prevent certain types of cancer. I alluded to this very subject a few years ago in a previous blog post, but it bears mentioning again, this time with an update.

This past week, I'd gone to an endoscopy center to get another colonoscopy done. The results were three polyps that got removed during the procedure, each of them pre-cancerous. This differs from...

Baseball Is Fun Again In Astroville, Sports Fans

Another day, another win.

We would not have said this a couple of years ago, but Houston Astros fans can gladly say that happy days, for the moment, are here again. You have Jose Altuve to thank for today's exciting win. It was his very first walk-off win with a single in the bottom of the 10th inning which resulted in a 3-2 win over Seattle at Minute Maid Park. Hard to believe, as good as Altuve had been for a few years, today's finish was, indeed, Jose's...

Wash, Rinse, Spin, Dry: A New Era In The Case Abode

Posted 04-30-2015 at 09:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

One era ended about three months ago when I had to let go of a rented washer and dryer at my humble apartment. The washer had broken down and a lot of its functions were not functioning. Management no longer felt a need to house rented washers and dryers, and most residents had decided to get their own appliances. So it came time for this resident to part with both of those things (even though the dryer was fine).

After shelling out numerous quarters for the past...

Getting Correct Change Is One Thing, But This Is Insane

Posted 04-23-2015 at 09:48 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Driving to work on Sunday morning, I stopped by the Whataburger drive-thru in Coppell, Texas, like I would on many Sundays. I paid five dollars to get a $2.91 breakfast sandwich. The man at the cash register got me my breakfast, but with no napkins and no receipt. Aaaaaaand $8.09 in change. It was discovered after I'd already left the parking area, so because of time, it was too late to go back and try to rectify this.

Time for Ol' Case to become The Good Samaritan....

Vacation Time: Where Will The Casester Go Next?

Posted 04-22-2015 at 05:27 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

It takes planning, sure. But the wrestling with where to take a trip sometimes creeps into play. The agony of wanting to be so many places at one time just beckons. And it also stays a while. Oh, I've got plans made up for my next road trip (back to Tulsa and Green Country), but there's a part of me that wishes that I could also be in Albuquerque, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Kansas City, Destin, Natchitoches, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin all at once.

If only...
