Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

New Mac's In Grapevine Getting Good Business

Posted 01-14-2015 at 07:43 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

When the move was made for Mac's Bar and Grill to relocate from a freeway location in Colleyville, Texas, to a new downtown venue in Grapevine (just a few miles away), I just wondered how it would fare. They had a loyal customer base at the other location, but would a lot of that actually carry over to Grapevine?

So far, as my waitress for tonight told me, no. But they've gotten big business, anyway. The reason? What I mentioned in the first paragraph: ...

I Wrote THAT? Sometimes We Just Forget

Posted 01-12-2015 at 09:22 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

After almost 37,000 posts at this writing, it's amazing how the things that I've offered while on this fine website have caught the attention of a number of posters. It is, after all, my objective to make somebody's day while on here. Every day, people come on here and offer discussion, advice, and opinions on various topics that are of immediate concern to us right here. Depending on the forum and the topic, I'll either make someone smile or make others mad.

2 Degrees To 50 In 6 Hours? I'll Believe Anything

Posted 01-08-2015 at 03:55 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

That's got to be the biggest temperature increase this writer had ever seen..........and I don't even live there! I was at work at my post in Dallas a few days ago to dispatch a group of drivers in Denver, and their temperature in the early morning hours was 2 above zero.

It was a far cry from what their high temp would become during the day. By the end of my shift, the temp had skyrocketed to a whopping 50 degrees! Yes, in Denver. Yes, the place that had...

Fixing A Mix-Up At Work To Save The Day

Posted 01-05-2015 at 04:27 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 01-05-2015 at 04:51 PM by case44

It can happen any time of the year, but since I had such a really good day today, I had to step in and help. After all, the lead on duty in my area was tired from her shift and really didn't want to continue with a difficult situation. By my shift's end, astonishingly, I was not even tired!

So that's when your trusty writer decided to take ownership.

Here's what went on: One of my drivers I was covering for dispatch got two shipments completely mixed...

Biggio Has To Get In For This Year's Hall Of Fame Class

Posted 01-03-2015 at 05:14 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

He fell short by two-tenths of one percent of the vote last year. So, the baseball writers will be gathering again to place their votes for this year's MLB Hall of Fame inductees, and the Houston Astros' Craig Biggio is on that list. Many folks are saying that he should be a shoo-in this year.

Well, let's just hope. That all-important vote will be announced on Tuesday. Houston fans are very deserving of having a lifetime Astro inducted to Cooperstown. More important...
