Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Vacation Journal: Thoughts From The Edge And Things That Did Happen

Posted 07-29-2013 at 12:57 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Being on vacation brings forth images for your mind. If you have a photographic memory like I do, sometimes you get a lot of pictures in your mind that sort of hang there whenever you have something memorable happen. In other instances, things happen and you occasionally wonder why. But what the heck, it's vacation!

I've been off for twelve days but it really felt like three weeks. I love it when these things drag. My travels had taken me to Lubbock, Texas...

A Dallas Radio Legend Is Being Remembered

Posted 07-29-2013 at 04:41 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 07-29-2013 at 12:03 PM by case44

Back when I religiously listened to Top 40 music, part of the experience wasn't just the music of the day, but the disc jockey who played those songs, mixed with some talk interspersings. In Dallas, we had a deejay that had been enormously popular with listeners practically from the beginning of his time in this market. He's a fellow who is being remembered now, as he just passed away a few days ago, originally believed to be an aneurysm but now confirmed as cardiac disease, at...

Soft Rock Radio Stations Becoming Passe? It's Looking Like It

Posted 07-28-2013 at 11:53 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Next to oldies and classic country, the soft rock format has, for many years, been a reliable go-to format for me whenever I listen to the radio in local areas. Now, I know that I have more choices on Sirius XM, but what I'm going to discuss here is local broadcast radio and the things in your broadcast area. And, yes, it still exists.

Have you been noticing numerous format changes where you are? Seems like it's happening more and more as radio continues to...

Buddy Holly Fixed In A New Place In Lubbock

Posted 07-27-2013 at 08:50 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

What I meant was a replica of the late, great Buddy Holly. Once upon a yesteryear, said replica was a fixture of a plaza across from the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center. For many years, the Buddy Holly statue and the accompanying Walk of Fame were part of the experience in that location.

Well, it's all a-gotten moved now.

Nestled today at the intersection of 19th and Crickets Ave in the northwest quadrant is what is now known as Buddy &...

Back To The Roads Of Texas Once Again

Posted 07-18-2013 at 07:28 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Your favorite blogger is at it again. Yes, he just can't stop driving, can't he? It's that time again for me to get away and experience serenity and enjoy life while taking a respite from this thing called work.

Ol' Case is taking to the roads of the great Lone Star state once again, and it's happening in a few short days. More freeway miles, gas pumps, cow crossing signs, sunrises, bird droppings, parking places, and full plates. I won't regurgitate...
