Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

What You Sometimes See On YouTube Is Almost Like Being There

Posted 08-08-2013 at 02:44 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Have you ever wanted to see certain places before you see them? I don't mean still photographs, but, rather, actual live motion footage of cities and all that they contain. You actually can. It's amazing, the stuff you find on YouTube nowadays. You can type in the key words to any particular place and, chances are, you will see some type of footage there.

The other night, I thought it best to look at the footage of a passenger traveling up Las Vegas Boulevard...

Memo To CBS And Time Warner Cable: What Were Y'all Thinking?

Posted 08-03-2013 at 08:06 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

The squabble continues on, and whatever you've been hearing or reading about the retransmission fee dispute between CBS and Time Warner Cable, rest assured that there will be three losers in this hot mess. That's right, three. The losers will be Time Warner Cable, the CBS television network, and avid TV viewers who want reliable programming.

CBS is going to take big ratings nosedives in key markets such as Los Angeles, New York City, and Dallas. Face it,...

Padre Makes Its Way Into The Latest Vacation Plans

Posted 08-03-2013 at 07:45 AM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)
Updated 08-05-2013 at 05:12 PM by case44

A few days ago, my work supervisor approved my vacation time for the latter part of October, and that gave me the green light to do what I'm about to do real soon. I'm going to finally do it this time....

South Padre Island, here I come!

Yes, yours truly has never been to Padre in all the years I've lived in the great state of Texas. My only time in the Rio Grande Valley was as a young teenager on a trip with my parents. We did not stop by...

Time (And, Perhaps, Vaseline) Can Heal All Wounds

Posted 08-01-2013 at 05:51 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Ol' Case did not have a broken heart this week. He did not have a fall or get hit by a baseball or have an accident. He had to have a little bit of surgery a few days ago, and he's just a little impatient in waiting for the healing process.

I touched on this a smidge in a previous writing, but I wanted to just let you know that a little basal cell skin cancer had snuck onto my face not long ago. Problem was, it took a while to realize what that dreaded thing was. ...

Football Already? You Could Say Fourth And Goal

Posted 07-29-2013 at 02:34 PM by case44 (Welcome To Case's Column)

Honestly, I don't want to stop thinking about baseball. At this time of year, however, football is making its way back into the fold of our everyday lives. One month from now, we'll have college football, pro football, high school football, everything football.

Training camps for the pros are well underway. Pigskin fans everywhere are in eager anticipation for the season to come. Seems like just a couple of weeks ago when I attended a high school football...
