Big' and I are here on the sun room floor, me with my back propped up by an ottoman, and him on his bed. For the next two weeks the vet says: "No walking, no active play, no stairs, no jumping up or down."

We ARE talking about Bigun the Wonder Dog, who leaps the flower beds with a grace that defies the leading ballet dancers, runs full tilt after bees, birds, and balls, and that's after clearing the stairs from the upper floor to the lower in seconds.

I'm taking a break with Bigun at my side, and Ritz at my feet. Bigun and I returned from a short (two mile) walk earlier, and now the sun is breaking through the clouds. Soon it will be time to head to the dentist for my biannual cleaning, and then it's groceries and pharmacy, but right now it's time to relax. I don't know how many more Wednesdays I will have off, or whether I will have every day off soon, but whatever. Today, I am happy.

This morning while DH was downstairs on his radio station, I clipped the extendable lead on Big' and headed for the park. It was early enough that I could let him roam without fear of traffic or intruding on another's space, and he likes the greater freedom.

Sitting in my sunroom (blinds closed), the skylights still dark overhead, the winds rage outside. The weather forecast predicts rains, some thunder storms, and more winds -- gusting now around 17 mph.

Downstairs, DH (Ham radio operator N7RVD) is participating in a weekend contest -- one of four this year he "really, really" wants to do. If lightening comes near, he'll power off his station, so I hope for his sake that part of the forecast is wrong.
