26th Anniversary of our 1st Date

Posted 02-13-2012 at 08:17 AM by LookinForMayberry

Twenty-six years ago today, my DH went to the office determined that either he or "that #itch" was going to go, or they would find a way to make the working relationship work.

That evening, following an after work drink at a local piano bar, we were necking in the parking lot. Following a heated, secret office romance -- moving in together after a month, he was fired, took another job, we moved to Seattle, and got married 7.4 years later.

We've been struggling...

Life's Limits

Posted 02-13-2012 at 06:03 AM by LookinForMayberry

My good friend in Tucson goes out to the dessert to see the wildflowers in bloom each spring. This morning's email reports that this weekend's trip was just a bit too early, as the cacti are only in bud -- just a few blossoms. She also commented on how there were so many more roads than she remembered from last year....

Two Fridays ago, she reported she was going out with a bag of stale biscuits and unused cans of cat food "for the critters."

I love my friend,...

Squeak, squeak, Moooaaaannnn.

Posted 02-11-2012 at 07:24 AM by LookinForMayberry

Bigun LOVES his squeaky toy. When both of us are too absorbed in our own pursuits and he wants to play, he'll eventually find the squeaky toy. He gives it a few fast chomps in rapid succession, making it squeal more than squeak, and then he settles down for a nice slow munch, soft squeak, and then moans a low, drawn out, satisfied moan.

It's how we ended our Friday night.

He is such an amusing dog.

Super PACs = Unrestricted PACs

Posted 02-10-2012 at 10:18 AM by LookinForMayberry

I'd like to understand how it came to pass that our legal system allows the creation of a Super PAC to get around the restrictions placed on a PAC. Somehow, I suspect knowing would depress me more than our environmental situation.

More than $79Mil were spent influencing our politics in 2011, according the the NY Times. So much for the democracy.

I am starting to think the anarchists are correct. We probably should just scrap the whole government, since it is no longer...

The Environment is SO Depressing

Posted 02-10-2012 at 06:24 AM by LookinForMayberry

Since I started researching what it takes to implement an Environmental Management System in our company, my days are filled with such depressing information I can hardly face getting out of bed on the work day mornings.

The good news is that we're addressing the situation on a local, state, national, and global level.

The bad news is that we do more to destroy our environment than we do to restore it. For every bit of progress I read about, there are ten or more accounts...
