Now that your unpacked and got to test drive the area for a bit, encountered some locals and yokels, and hopefully some actual people that moved to the area from your home town or state its time to list the likes you have of your new or semi-new, or heck if the area is your native home than by all means and ways list what you like! Y'all got it? Well here goes!

Weather! You like or not!
Year round flowers!
Long springs!
Longer Autumns!
Shorts year round! For the hearty ones that is.
Variety of sub divisions to chose from!
Snow is a neat event versus a ho-hum not again event!
No rust on older cars! Amazing if your from the Northeast!
Can fish year round without cutting holes in the water (ice) for us North Easterners!
Pretty country side is usually only 5 minutes or less from where you live anywhere in the triangle.
People R People. No matter what they say!
Day trip to Mountains!
Day trip to Ocean!
And in a lot cases no trip at all to the many lakes, ponds, river, and streams that spot the area!
Good food can be had by all and more is always welcome irregardless if they are called viddles or pickins!
Out away from the city lights the sky at night explodes with the many stars that fill the emptiness of space with the occasional flying star to catch a dream or two on!
Groceries can be cheaper but we all have to eat!

Sure it takes time to get use to this place, remember the place you came from was called home and that is never a easy place to replace! But give it time, explore the area and get involved and this place too will be your new home not only in name but in feeling!

May the triangle, RDU, RTP, Crossroads, the Quay, Wake Forest, Knightdale, Apex, Raleigh, Durham, Zebulon, Oxford, Mossisville, Franklinton, Youngsville, Chapel Hill, Henderson, ...seems like I am forgetting somewhere....????......Oh yea! and Cary, be with you!

Wake Forest, Gosh its a pretty nive place to live!

Wake Forest, NC. located in Wake County NC. Some call it Wake's Forest of the Triangle....Ok maybe that's just me. But if you come from the North East, Wake Forest seems to fit. It has some rolling hills and many farming areas.

It has a small town feel but close to Raleigh, you could be down town Raleigh, depending on time of day in about 15 to 30 minutes. You can be at the Virginia border in less than an hour.

It has old Historical homes and some new subdivisions. It certainly worth a look see if your looking and seeing the area. It has transplants from New Jersey, New York, and many other NE State and Mid West and California and....well you get the idea people from all over this great country now calls Wake Forest home!

C'mon down, over, left, or right and check it out you may just like what you see.

    Monday November 30th, 2009.....<News Flash> do you know where your waistline went? Few days off of good food and my waist line seemed to expand like the
    Macy's Day Parade floats just prior to the big day! Now to figure out how to deflate the waistline as quick as it inflated!

    But all measurements aside, it was a great time. Was fortunate to have plenty of everything under the category of food and friends. Was thankful to God for all he provided this past year. Was thankful I did not get up at 3AM on Black Friday to save $10 on a Crock Pot or a 10 speed Blender or 1000 other things I seem to get by without before Black Friday. I am thankful for my PC so I can click, click, click, and Paypal my way right through today's Cyber Monday! I am thankful for the countless Salavation Army Bell ringers making a differrence in someone's lives that they will most likely never really know!

    Thanksgiving starts the season of hope and new beginnings. The season of friendship and kindness to our fellow brothers and sisters. The season to see the good in all when bad is all we hear. The next 30 or so days are special and can be rewarding for a lifetime if you let them.

    John Wooden a famous UCLA Basketball coach summed it up best when he said;

    Tuesday December 1, 2009. 30 degrees here and ice on the car and the front steps when I took the dog out this AM. ICE - I'm Cold Everyone! But been lucky up to this point as the temperatures have been unseasonably warmer than normal and that is a good thing.

    Speaking of good things, we are in the last month of the year 2009. Ready to end the first decade of the new millennium or start the last year of the 1st decade...I'm not good at decade terminology! 30 years ago we landed on the Moon and 20 years ago MJ did the Moon walk and in 10 years from now they are going to land on the Moon again! Oh how history has a way of repeating itself again and again.

    When it comes to sitcoms and fried chicken repeats are a good thing. When it comes to chili and cold weather not so much!

    Anyway its Tuesday and that is one day closer to Friday! Cyber Monday is behind us and as I look in the mirror of Facebook I can just twitter myself into electron land! As the electron said to the proton catch me if you can as I can do circles around you!!! :P

    December 3, 2009 and do you what tenth of degree your temperature is today? I do! I do! I have installed weatherbug ( aka bug me now or later) and I know it is 51.8 degrees here in cloudy upstate NY!

    I am so excited about the 0.8 degree part. Why I would be in sweat mode to be confused that it would say its 52 degrees if I didn't have a tenths column or conversely I would be much cooler if I thought it was only a mere 51 degrees....say it isn't so! (OK it isn't so because its 51.8 degree!) We are getting so percise in our chaotic world!

    Just think that at any point today we knew what tenth of a day it way? Why right now it would be December 3.33333 (8AM ET). And I did do the math!

    So let your day be fun-tastic no matter how you slice it albeit in tenths, hundreths, or even in hours to the power of one! Because today is special and its the only one we share so use it for good and not evil!

    Monday December 7, 1941 and according to FDR "a day that will live in infamy."

    The definition of infamy is evil reputation brought about by something grossly criminal, shocking, or brutal. That pretty much summed up what happened at Pearl Harbor and as they say the rest is history!

    So a moment of silent prayer to those that lost their lives that day. <................................................. .......>

    The weekend was cool, literally. Snow showers on Saturday that started about noon and lasted until we had an inch or so covering the grass and dirt and bridges. This morning its 21.0 degrees and as the weather person on the news this am said its "fairly seasonable" for this time of the year. I often wonder if the temperature is way above or below normal how come that don't say its unfairly seasonable for this time of the year?

    Took a drive down to NEPA yesterday and they had more snow than we did. Looks like some parts had up to 2 inches or so. Actually took the drive with a destination in mind and that was the Premium Outlets in Tannersville PA. Over 100 stores there and some nice deals and it was a nice day trip. The outlets are very close to Camel back Ski Resort and we saw the lights on the slopes on the way back and it appeared some of the slopes were operating.

    Wishing everyone a happy and joyous week. Make each day count for more than one as some will having nothing to count and need our help!

    Tuesday December 8, 2009. Yesterday was infamy and today is anticipation. Weather calling for a winter advisory so we, (which includes 'I' 'me' 'us' and 'them') have been advised! Of what you may be thinking if not outright asking yourself.....

    Of pending winter weather, some snow to begin over night between the hours of darkness and lightness.

    In the lightness hours of tomorrow it may mix with or change to rain/sleet/ice particulates! Those are the ones I use the Salt particulates on to melt into H2O.

    So I have a Rock Salt advisory on at my house!

    Went to the grocery store and even in upstate NY the
    forecast of adverse weather and its every man child and 2nd cousins for themselves. I counted my fingers prior to entering the milk and bread isle and again when I left. Started with 10 across 2 hands and ended up with 9 1/2! So felt pretty good about that!

    There was certainly a hustle and bustle in the isles.
    I did not hear Silver Bells but I think the guy that picked
    the last loaf of bread had certainly seen some from that
    over sized purse that stuck him squarely on the head! I can't be sure but I think I saw some horns popping out from just under the lady's hat that struck him as she billowed out, 'That's mine Sonny!"

    There were no people laughing just grumbling.
    There was a feeling of snow!
    Meaning shoveling, plowing, salting, and falling!
    Meaning higher energy bills and leaking pipes!

    ...and in the music of silver bells...

    4 alarm fire bells, 4 alarm fire bells!
    Its another winter in upstate New York!
    Shovel-a-sidewalk, hear your back crack!
    Not soon enough it will be spring day!

    But all kidding aside! Snow falling is a

    Thursday December 10, 2009. Winter weather has taken a break here in upstate NY for today at least. Partly sunny and the temp is 26.1 degrees and slowly rising. But there is a wind advisory so those out walking today take note you could be a sailing without out ever leaving the dock!

    Power of prayer has been proven yet again! Relative had a bad health week and after a couple of surgeries they are now on the mend and hopefully turned the corner and heading in the direction of full recovery!

    All that is impossible is possible just for the mere fact that the word possible is within the word impossible!

    Monday December 14, 2009 and it is cloudy and 33.8 degrees here in upstate NY. Was slick yesterday morning with the freezing rain and than all rain by mid morning. Nothing a bit of some salt did not take care of on the walkway. Saturday was nice and sunny!

    Had a slight car problem onSaturday when I was backing out of a driveway my vehicle decided that it was the perfect time to slip into 4 wheel drive low. All by itself! My vehicle is not Herbie but I do believe some of Herbie's genes are traveling around the wires of my car. Well once it got into 4 WD low it did not want to come out. No matter how I pressed the buttons from 4WD high to 2WD it just stayed in 4WD low. Anyone that uses 4WD low knows that it really likes to only go slow in that gear....Well I made it two blocks and stopped at the stop sign placed the vehicle in neutral and repeated 3 times in quick succession, "The power of 2WD be with you", "I love my GM Vehicle", "You will never have to repay TARP" and low and behold it shifted into 2WD and has been working ever since!

    Sometimes I think the vehicle just needs someone to talk to it other than Mr. Goodwrench!

    Switching gears! Pun intended. Only 11 days until Chistmas. Do you have all your shopping done? I still have to point and click several more times to finish up. You can't beat shoppng online. Point, click, pay, and everyone has your credit card info and if your really lucky your order may come on time!

    All kidding aside Christmas is approaching and it is time to reflect on the past year and good will you have received and gave over the year. A time to set aside differences and opinions and do what is good and right. Its a time to reflect on the least amongst us and help those in need. Care for others and than yourself.

    Wednesday December 16, 2009 and the outside temp is 19.9 degrees. Dusting of snow over night that dusted so much I had to shovel it off the walkways and driveways this am.

    The best adjective I can use for our dog in the snow is frolic, she hits that snow and leaps like a gazelle through the African hi-grass! She really likes this snow to the point that she eats it!

    Friday December 18,2009 and where did the heat go? A cool....scratch that a cold 3 degrees here in upstate NY this AM. We are heading to the time when the old thermometer falls below the 0 degree mark! I stutter well shake at that approaching time!

    But it still is crisp and clear here! Our dog bolted out this morning for her daily constitutional and never made made it to Article 1 Section 'P' when she was heading back into the house and her her pillow! She gave me that look like, Dang you never said NY was this cold....I miss my Wake Forest.

    We are certainly chugging towards Christmas and at this point it will be a white one here on upstate. We have about 4"of snow on the ground and possibly more coming this weekend. Oh Joy...and drop the 'to the world'...and stick with 'to upstate NY!'

    December 22, 2009 and in this year that equates to Tuesday! 3 days till Christmas! Speaking of Christmas last week we missed the big snow storm...as in Santa's sleigh it skidded off just south of us. We got notta! As in my Christmas cookies that be <SWEET>

    I like a good snow storm like the next abominable snowman but missing one is nice too!

    Christmas shopping has pretty much been shut down for the season....gifts have been bought, wrapped, and awaiting distribution! The Reverse Logistics plan for the wrapping paper, packaging material, cardboard boxes, and empty bottles of cheer have been put into place!

    All that is left now is to sit back and think about yester year Christmas....esss! Here are my Top memories:

    1. The month long anticipation of Santa.
    2. Snow on Christmas morning!
    3. Seeing the cookies been eaten and the milk drunk!
    4. Opening the presents and wondering how did Santa know!?
    5. Dressing up and heading to Grandparents (Nona & Nono's) house. Nona always had large bowls of M&M's for us grand kids.
    6. Heading out to play in the snow with our new whatever's we got.
    7. Than heading to our cousins to see what they got.
    8. Heading to Mass to be enlightened on what Christmas was really about.
    9. Knowing there was no school for over a week! Kewl!
    10. In he evening as family gathered at our home the sounds of Christmas music playing on a old 78LP or on that 8 Track player. Sounds of Mitch Miller, Ray Conniff, Bing Crosby, Dean Martin and to many to name.

    What we did not have were I-Pods, Computers, Game Stations, Cell Phones, Instant Messaging, Text Messing, Tweets, VCR's, or DVD's, just the old fashion 8mm movie camera without sound but the blinding Flood lights on the light bar. My uncle always thought he was Celil B Demille on Christmas day filming that next great movie!~

    Even without the above we survived and have a life time of memories of Family and Friends to reminisce about the good old days and to pass our generations Christmas onto our childrens.

    One word comes to mind 'Awesome'.

    December 28, 2009 and its Christmas +3! Its 24.8 degrees and a lite snow falling upon the ground! Possibly 3 to 5 inch today and tonight. But its a light snow with heavy consequences when one must shovel it! lol

    But Christmas was wonderful! Meeting family and friends, some that have not been seen in years and except for some hair color in both the gray and non gray varieties everything was wonderfully the same. The reminiscing of stories from Christmas past with relatives and friends of current and those that are no longer with us to share these special moments were enjoyed by all.

    But when one does connect with the past over a Christmas cookie or two time does seem to stand still. Its like one gets to relive that special moment that has long gone past. The calendar tells us that 2009 is winding down but those memories buried inside our minds of a Christmas past had rushed out of its hiding and into the present when we saw those relatives or friends and talked about those memories.

    Hours pasted liked minutes and before we all knew it our time together was over and we all departed back with a fresh installment of lifetime memories rejuvenated about our past and present family and friends. Ah what a special time it was and I surely hope all got the opportunity to relish in the company of family and friends!

    Tuesday December 29 2009 and it is Cold outside with a Capital C! Low was 7 and it is now 8.6 degrees heading up to a high of 11 and that be Fahrenheit! Must be January is just around the flip of the calendar when the real cold hits! This is just a warm up to the cold show in January and February! It will certainly make my return to Wake Forest all the better!

    December 31, 2009 and that be a Thursday! Last day of the year and decade! The decade that started with Y2K and ended with the movie 2012. Some real parallels in there somewhere I guess but I tend to like my geometry perpendicular and to the point!

    But where has this decade gone? It went in the history books as the decade of extreme wealth and spending by ALL complete with Mansion's, cars, boats, and every consumer electronic one could imagine being bought! It ended almost in financial ruin but nothing a quick 'bailout' of non existed funds could not cure.

    We bought our way back from the brink but are precariously sliding along its outer edges and one slip away from bankruptcy.

    What will the second decade of the 2000's bring us? Anyone's guess. Consumers in this decade found out what credit limits were and what happened when they were exceeded? Will this decade be the time our Governments, the Federal, State, and Local find out the same?

    His vision was for the ages, timeless and astute. How could he have foreseen the future so clearly in the 1700's?

    Saturday January 2, 2010 and the current temp is 8.6 degrees and heading lower. Brrrrr. With 12 mph wind the wind chill is -7 degrees. You know when the wind chill goes below zero two ways. 1. If you have a dog and they need to go out so they go by the door and you open it and they gaze back up at you with the Austin Powers look when he says 'right'... or 2. the air has the bite in it that immediately chills you to the bone.

    Either one pretty much sums up the cold! ...and January has only just begun.

    Day 2 of the new year is almost over. Hopefully your resolutions are still in tact. Mine are so far....and sometimes yet so close. I have the pretty standard ones as resolutions go, eat better, exercise more and be a kinder, gentler, and smarter me!

    Sunday January 3,2009. My temp in upstate NY as per weather bug is 'undefined'......YIKES! But the winds have stopped so it is warmer tonight than last night. Before it went to undefined it was 9.0 degrees so I at least got that going for me!

    I did manage to watch the NC State game against Florida today and what in the long shots was that at the end? Oh sweet 3/4 court shots that went up and than in....nothing but net! Oh my!

    That leads me to my quote of the day from Yogi:

    Tuesday January 5th, twenty-ten! 15.8 Degrees...and in 10 years it will be the real year twenty-twenty! abc can have a big year with their News Show twenty-twenty!

    Still have to wait a bit for the old Zager and Evans hit song, "In the year 2525"

    But another topic in this new year. A friend sent me some pictures of an old small PA town where he grew up and they were raising his local Church and his old small elementary school building. As I reflected on that progress I could not help but think how apropos this picture was.

    Shown were two pillars of small town America in morales, values, and future potential leaders being destroyed. I don't know what they plan to put up in place of these two institutions. But reflecting back on the manpower that it took to build these structures, one can only imagine they were built by believers who had little in material goods but were rich in faith and yearning for knowledge and now just sit in a pile of rubble.

    They say a picture is worth 1000 words....the picture of the wrecking ball smashing the steeple of the church is worth just one....'sad'. The steeple that had the bells that called the faithful of yesterday to come and take an hour from their busy, hectic, workweek to worship is now gone forever.

    I feel fortunate that I have this opportunity to see some of these North Eastern small towns and their architectural make up before they are gone forever. To witness old turn of the century Churches that are now worthless to these small communities and being torn down. These old Churches would be priceless to the faithful in towns like Wake Forest.

    January 8, 2010. Temp here 16 degrees and snowing....got a few inches overnight and it tried real hard to snow all day but picked up around 5PM and we have another couple of inched on the ground.

    Today Snow Shovel 3x Me not shoveling '0'

    But as they say; I don't think the cold is got here yet! This week it will be here Sunday night single digits with wind chills below zero! ...That is just Fan-icicle-tastic!

    But its Friday...night no less. This week has gone quicker that a upstate NY sunny day in January. So its time to reflect on the top 10 things to warm your soul.

    1. Long walks on the banks of your favorite lake or beach with yourself, your loved ones, or your 4 legged best friend.


    2. Watch a sunset slide over the edge of the earth on a spectacular summer evening.

    3. Taking a nice boat ride to that favorite swimming hole or fishing hole and as the wind blows by so does your daily lives tribulations.

    4. Stepping up to the local ice cream counter and gaze into the endless possibilities of pure joy and bliss! Especially when someone else is paying!

    5. The smile of a loved on that first day of summer vacation.

    6. A good book under that beach umbrella.....

    7. A camp fire complete with stories of the good old days when life was simpler and complexity was for adults to worry about.

    8. Laying in a field gazing up at the 4th of July firework display and forgetting about today's worries.

    9. Hitting that grand slam in the bottom of the 9th with 2 outs, 2 strikes, to win the game!

    10. Running through the garden hose at any age to be a kid or a just a kid again and again!

    Monday January 11, 2010. Eureka! For no other reason than its just a neat word to say! It always sounds like you discovered a new cereal in the endless cereal aisle or a new way to make pizza or maybe you just remembered where you left those darn car keys. Whatever the event make it a Eureka event!

    Speaking of Eureka where did the weekend go! It was as cold here in upstate NY as Foreigner sings in your - "Cold as ice". But there is hope for later this week we may actually get to the freezing mark! A breakout your lawn chair and set it out on the snow bank as it may hit the freezing mark! Eureka! ...sorry just the thought of freezing made me boil over!

    But what a cool week on tap! Middle of January is almost in sight so than we start the downward mark to the end of January and give it the "COLD" shoulder as we flip to February.

    SO much to be thankful....
    thankful for the cold so we appreciate the warmth of Spring.
    thankful for the ice skates so we can appreciate flat shoes!
    thankful for the snow shovel so we can appreciate watching the spring rains knowing a shovel will NOT come after the rains!
    thankful for the walls, roof, and floor that surrounds us so we can always remember to help those that don't have the warmth of a home surrounding them.....

    Tuesday January 12, 2010 and it snowith again over night and the current temp is 19.2! In fact as I peer out the window its snowing pretty good with large flakes. Got about 2 inches over night and the stuff falling now is not accumulating much!

    Since January 1st we have about 6 to 8 inches on the ground from the little here little there type of snowfalls we have been getting. But it is suppose to warm up into the 20s this week. So we got that going for us!
