All glass (including windows, doors and mirrors) shall be installed and maintained to prevent hazards. All electrical outlets which are or may be accessible to children under five years old shall be protected by childproof covers or safety outlets. All 220 volt electrical connections accessible to children younger than five years old shall be protected by a screen or guard.

  • Room Finishes
    Day Care Ordinance 16-429B, page 7. Surfaces of all walls, floors, ceilings, doors and windows shall be smooth, easily cleanable and free of cracks, splinters sharp points or corners, splinters, protruding nails and loose paint which could contain lead or other poisonous materials. All equipment, materials and furnishings shall be sturdy and safe construction,easy to clean, free of sharp points or corners, splinters, protruding nails, loose rusty parts and paint which contain lead or other poisonous materials.     Day Care Ordinance 16-429C(4) & (7), page 8. All handwashing lavatories shall be provided with hot and cold water under pressure, tempered by means of a mixing valve or combination faucet. The hot water available to children shall not exceed 120 degrees F. Combination fixtures such as faucet/water fountains are prohibited. There shall be at least one handwashing lavatory in each restroom or immediately adjacent to each restroom. A handwashing lavatory must be installed in each room with a diaper changing station. Soap and a hand-drying device or disposable towels shall be provided for use by both children and staff at each lavatory.
    Handwashing lavatories are not provided with hot and cold water. Hot water not at sinks in 4 yr old room and pre-toddler/3 yr old room. Handwashing lavatories are not provided with a mixing valve or combination faucet to temper the hot water.

  • Play and Sleep Furnishings
    Day Care Ordinance 16-430A(3 & 4), page 10 All cots, cribs and mats shall be maintained in a safe and sanitary manner. Each child shall have his/her own sleep apparatus which shall allow at least one foot of open space on all sides except that it may be adjacent to a wall or partition. Cribs, portable cribs or playpens shall be safe, sturdily constructed and equipped with mattress and waterproof cleanable mattress cover. Crib sides shall have a secure latching device and the vertical slats shall not be spaced more than two and one-half inches apart. There shall be no more than one and one-half inches of space between the mattress and the bed frame. Hand contact areas of cribs shall be sanitized daily. Linens shall be laundered at least once per week and more often if necessary. Shared linens will be laundered after each use. Linens used exclusively by one child shall be stored separately from those of other children.
