Whatever it is, it's a record that won't be broken. Threads that long cause the server the board resides on to work too hard, so we now close threads when they get to around 8,000 posts.
Within one message forum you can click the column headings - Replies or Views - and it will sort by the number of times it has been replied to or viewed - high to low.
You can click any of those others too, like thread starter and it will sort in alpha order.
In our Dallas forum the thread with the highest number of replies is called "Remember This" and has 1,194 posts.
The thread with the highest number of views is "So, tell me about Lakewood" which has 319,778 views.

Reason: typo
I always think this is so odd. I've seen thread topics which were really interesting that get a minimum of responses; then there will be some weird topic that gets a ton of responses. Funny how that happens.

LOL, on the Northern Virginia forum we had a thread about which grocery stores carry quark cheese. For some unexplained reason this became on of our most viewed threads ever! Also, a relatively bland thread about a local mattress store. Why on earth did that one get so many views? Who knows!

If you post in a busy forum, I think a lot of it has to do with the time of day you post. Another issue I see most frequently is really bad subject titles meaning they are not descriptive of the content of the original post so people won't even open the thread to view it. Bad subject titles also lead to the posting of duplicate threads.

Say what you want about trollers, I've seen a troll thread started, and OMG!
Some of those threads can zoom up in numbers in record time and
no matter how many posters will warn this poster is a troll, it can make no difference at all!
