No first hand, but plenty of second-hand. I know lots of Cape Verdeans and some people who worked there w/the Peace Corps.

I could write a book on this stuff - I love the culture and am always taken for CV when I'm in Boston......you'd be surprised at how many Americans have CV ancestry. Lena Horne for example.

Is living in a city and Cape Verde just not compatible? Sounds like even the big cities in C.V., are actually quite small.

I believe Praia and Mindelo are two of the larger of their towns. Anyone been to either one? What was your impression of them?

Those are small, still somewhat poor islands, why would you expect to find big cities there? Those islands lack water and other resources, they just don't support big city life and masses of people...

Unfortunately Cesaria Evora, the singer who helped put Cabo Verde on the entertainment map, has just died at age 70. She had an incredible talent.

Seen her concert a few times here, there was something special about her performance, may she rest in peace.

Anyone been to Praia or Mindelo?

I'd be a bit curious to hear some first-hand experience of what those two places are like?

Although I have never been to Cape Verde, I have seen a Globe Trekker show about it (combined with Senegal) and it looks like it might be an interesting place to visit.

I'll have to look for that on youtube...

Cape Verde remains one of those countries, that I'd love to visit...
