I know Ethiopia is an exception. But the article was quoting leaders from churches that were all introduced from Europe or the US. Here's a direct quote:

Very true, St Augustine who incidently happen to be a Berber (Native of North Africa) was born in Thagast (Souk Ahras today),in Numidia (Algeria today)
