Why did Barack Obama win Jefferson County in the 2008 General election? That county voted for Bush in 2004 and 2000. Why the reversal in 2008?

Well, the chief reason is that the black population in Jefferson County really mobilized to vote. The voting percentages in that demographic were off the charts.

Now that Obama is beginning to resemble Jimmy Carter far more than John Kennedy, however, I wonder if those numbers in 2012 will be anywhere close to 2008.

The blacks "cared" about who got elected...gee wonder why. Come 2012 they won't care again since they "got their way" and got the first black elected.

Who raised Obama, anyone know?

^^^ His grandparents from his mothers side so what is your point ? Last I checked Jefferson county had more whites than blacks, the city of Birmingham is only like 30 or less % of the Jefferson County population. And not everyone was of course of voting age in Birmingham. So if Birmingham residents were not able to vote the mass majority of the population of Jefferson County would still pull for Obama. If the blacks in Jefferson County didn’t vote, Obama would have still been the popular vote in Jefferson County. So my conclusion is that whites played a roll and if not a major roll in the majority vote for Obama in Jefferson County.

I’m more than confident that the blacks in Jefferson County will still care about who will be in the seat come 2012.The question is will the whites in Jefferson County be a major player in another popular Obama vote. With that being said Obama will need the white vote more than the blacks to win. Blacks didn’t vote for Obama because he was black, that was only one reason. Blacks voted because for one majority of the black population have been raised to be democratic supporters...gee wonder why. And secondly they believed in Obama`s messsages. The vote was more than skin deep my friend.

Well, I dont see that way Charlotte( I spent childhood summers there) anyways, I think Davis didn't have a clear message on what he wanted to do for the state. Alabama is a dougnut state surrounded by states that take our money to support there economy. It makes sense to have an education lottery but making sense is the easy part and convincing people is another thing.

You must realize that Jefferson County is the most diverse county in the state. We have plenty of liberals,as well as conservatives. Many who do not care about race, but credentials so let's not play the race game. Thank you
