I've been doing a lot of checking and found that Fl. has no income taxes but their property taxes are considerable compared to AL. But, AL has personal income taxes - is it a wash between Al and Fl since one has higher property taxes but the other has no income tax? Anyone that lives in AL, I would appreciate your take....

It is more than a wash, it is a dry too.

Property tax in FL for a $150K house $2,800 a year with homestead exemption.. HOI between 4k or more a year.

AL property tax for a 150K house around $400.00 a year. HOI in N. Al $1,200.. more if you live near in S. AL near the water.

Will you be working or retiring to AL?

Also Alabama groceries are NOT exempted from sales taxes. And you'll have to travel to a neighboring state for your weekly lottery ticket. Something else to consider.

Thats one good thing about my town on the state line, I get the best of both states.

Florida is also bad about permits and regulations. It seems every little thing you do in FL (even rural) requires an inspection and permit.
