I am planning a "long awaited" trip to Alaska. I have a 1-week vacation that I can take anytime in October. I realize that this is a short period of time but I really want to make it work.

I would like to visit Seward, Denali, and maybe Fairbanks if time permits.

How is the weather in October? Will there be any snow in the mountains? I am from Florida and would love some snow pictures.

I understand that October may not be the "best" time to visit, but it might be the only chance that i get.

Thanks much,

Steve

Yes, there should be snow by October. Not just on the mountains, but probably on the roads too.
Keep in mind that most of the touristy type stuff wraps up in mid September.
October will still be a great time to visit. Anytime is a good time to come to Alaska. Just be prepared to deal with the weather, especially if driving.

Down Seward way there will be snow capped mountains. No garantee on low level snow. Some years it's already hitting zero by Halloween with no snow at all. Some years we can have 3 foot of the good stuff at sea level. If your early Oct there might even be some fall colors left on the trees which will make for some spectacular scenery on the Kenai Peninsula.
Denali area may be more drab color wise...and have more snow early October.

Chances are you might even see some northern lights the farther north you go. I've been to Chena Hot Springs in mid October, and had 16 degrees at 1:00 AM, while watching and photographing spectacular northern lights with the Mrs. It's a 50 mile drive east of Fairbanks...but well worth the trip if your up that way.
