My wife has been offered a position in bethel ak. I have a gazillion questions. Will I be able to find good paying job, I have worked in the construction trade over 30 years primaraly electrical trade. I have 10 years constuction managment experiance. What are housing cost for a family of 3 with dog and 2 cats. Can you drive close to Bethel by road and then put your vehicle on a barge to cross the river

You pretty much missed all the barging for the season. You can drive up to Anchorage and have it shipped via air cargo with Lynden or Evert's Air. There are no roads out of here, Alaska Airlines is the main air carrier to Bethel, ERA Alaska is the other but they only have turbo prop service. There are many jobs available here. Construction is pretty much done for the season here. Good luck with the pets.

I'd find new home for the pets. Especially the cats. Not many landlords want you bringing those pissbuckets around.

Well, I can see I'm going to have to put old Stiff back on my "ignore" list once again. Strange how he's the only one here who's ever graced it. But I can see he's back to using this forum as his emotional garbage dump again and trying to make an online punching bag out of those who are only using this forum as it was intended to be used, asking relocation specific questions. I think he just lies in wait for someone new to post so that he can pounce. So don't bother yapping at me, Stiff, 'cause you ain't got a damn thing that's worth my time to read.

To the OP--don't know much about Bethel; my stepmom liked it there well enough though. Good luck to you.

Not very neighborly of you. Believe it or not, many people consider pets a part of their family. A big part.

Not unlike those who consider tea their political beverage of choice, and a part of their family.

Keeping the advice real and relevant. A vast majority of landlords don't want cats in their rental units. They are nasty and they stink. If that offends you, oh well!!! Why sit here and lie to the newcomer and feed him full of fairly tale dreams? If he wants to increase his chances of finding a rental he should consider dropping the pets off at the humane center. They deal with those things on a daily basis.

Pets are not a protected class under the Alaska Landlord Tenant Act.

Maybe someone should drop you off so that you could be "put to sleep".

Wouldn't that be a reverse abortion ?? Cats and dogs aren't human. They are animals and people seem to forget that. In some cultures cats and dogs are considered tasty treats. Just something you might want to chew on...........
