My husband and I have a four year old and a newborn, and we are looking to relocate to Alaska, and are needing help with the moving costs. He is interested in fishing jobs and or logging jobs with high end pay, that will cover the cost of re-locating from Texas to Alaska. We are wanting to live in a remote area away from the hustle and bustle of city life but would also enjoy the convience of being close to town. We are wondering the best way to go about relocating to Alaska. Should my husband go first, and me and the kids second? And what all jobs are available with only a high school education? Any phone numbers or contact info would be greatly appreciated, as well as rental information for three to four bedroom homes, not apartments or condos. Thank you for all of your help, and God Bless!!!

No offense to the OP, but "good luck" was the first thing that hit my mind also.

You will not find an employer in the fishing or logging industries that will cover the costs of your relocation.

Does your husband have experience in either of these areas?

Don't belive everything you see on TV, those are made for TV drama shows that are scripted and manufactured.

As far as reimbursed expenses...the Feds might, the state might, if you're an established employee just transferring they might.
I have seen one person (i'm sure they're others) get their expenses reimbursed after 1 yr or 18 months, just to make sure they were going to stay.
Lots of newbies move up here and haul butt after their first winter.

I think you are looking to fill a very tall order. I had my move to Alaska paid for, but I work for the Federal Government and hold a couple of degrees.

The Ex had his move to Alaska paid for, but he is active duty military.

Most jobs in Alaska that are willing to pay/reimburse relocation expenses (that I have found) are either Federal govt jobs (and not all positions qualify), Military, and some teaching positions.

And I have been researching for years.

Best of luck on your search, but I don't think it's going to be very fruitful.

Nikki

The large oil companies will pay for relocation expenses. However, those are mainly for salaried professional and/or managerial positions. Most people are astounded when I tell them how much they paid to move me up here (as am I to tell the truth)! They generally don't pay relocation for field or technical jobs.

Unless you are hiring on as part of the executive team of a large fishing or logging company, I doubt you'll see a relocation package in either of those two industries.
