I have a friend who specializes in Special Education and has relocated to Virginia with just a bestfriend-teacher with her. Just thought I'd share. They went by just fine. I am sure that you and your bf will have a smooth sail as you take a new step to the new adventure of relocation. Some say it's scary, don't be. Anything is doable.

there was an older thread on here about teaching in the bush, and a very experienced lady posted a wealth of useful information. i'd do some searching and listen to her!
(i'll do some searching for you right now, in fact).

We have submitted our applications for Anchorage and are looking at a few other districts. We looked at the forum on teaching in the bush and have pretty much ruled that out for now. Please continue posting any ideas or hints you may have that you think would be helpful. We appreciate all the advice!

Depending on your preferences, you might want to look at Northstar and Delta/Greely. Northstar includes Fairbanks and the surrounding (e.g. Salcha) areas, and Delta is definitely not urban, but it is what you might call modern, and it's a pretty easy drive from there to Fairbanks.

Bush-city, baby! This is the way to go. Sure, I can't scoot over to the grocery store or the local greasy spoon whenever I feel the urge, but I hardly notice that as an inconvenience anymore. This place rocks.
