Excellent idea, it could be a Motel H$LL in Alaska.

SE is shrinking because people are moving away due to lack of sustainable jobs. Most of the people in that part of the state are leaving for the -48. The interior....well, people from the villages have been moving into Anchorage for quite some time now due to fuel and food costs. The Valley's population jump is coming mostly from Outside right now. Different parts of the state have different reasons for their respective population shifts.

It's too expensive to live in southeast. Unless you're working for a governmental agency it's tough to find a job in the private sector that pays a liveable wage. Ketchikan really took a hit after the pulp mill shut down. Those were high paying blue collar jobs. Nothing else has come along to fill that void there.

Very cool!
It was interesting to see the Bush people moving to Urban Alaska.
As DH and I thought it interesting to see the mass moves out of Fairbanks but if you look at where they go, we think most of those people are military.

Thanks for the link!

Funny that you mention that because most of the Forest Service jobs I have looked at (well, probably a good half of them) are in Ketchikan. There's a few on POW and a few other SE places (one in Wrangell), but most of the USFS jobs I've looked at so far are in SE. Not a good sign for me at this point. I don't wanna live there!

SE has forests. Compared to SE the rest of us grow sticks.

How could you possibly know that since you've never been there? Visually it's one of the most beautiful places in the entire State of Alaska. I'd still live down there if I could afford it.
