Twenty five miles to the closest store in the UP is what helped make you perfect for Alaska. Our loss is Michigans gain.

will go dig out my box of lens filters and see what all is in there then!
Edit: you are in luck my friend! have step up ring 62mm to 67mm and lots of 67mm which makes the filter slightly larger than the lens...which I prefer.... I have other filters duplicate's you might want. give me some time an I will compile a list for ya!

Did you live in the UP before you came to Alaska, Nephler? I was under the impression that you were from northern lower Michigan. Of course not trying to nit-pick, I'm just curious. If I had to stay in the lower 48, northern MI and the UP are places that would be on the short list. MT/WY mountain country too.

I've lived in the Northern Lower and do now, but at the very 'tip-of-the-mitt'. The UP has always been my playground, mainly along the shore of Lake Superior, and I know that area like the back of my hand, but still can find new places.

That store is about 6 miles away, then the closest place to shop is about 25 miles, or so. But even then, to do any real shopping like you would in Anchorage, that's another 75 miles.

Yeah, the tip-of-the-mitt area is probably just as pristine as much of the UP, honestly. Nothing out there whatsoever (except beautiful scenery and adventure, that is). That area along Lake Superior is magnificent, I like the Pictured Rocks area and I really like Point Abbaye, where you can see the Huron Mountains out in the distance. I imagine that standing on Point Abbaye at sunrise (which I had the pleasure of doing one December morning) and feeling that feeling, I imagine that's kind of a taste of what Alaska feels like.

Holly Crap, you know where Point Abbaye is? I have a photo of my Jeep out on the rocks of that point, past the end of the road. Just on the other side, east, of the point is the Huron River, some of the best camping and swimming (about 2 weeks worth) around. The Huron Islands are just off shore and they look like you could swim to them, but it's a good 5 miles out, and you don't want to be out in the Big Lake at that depth, dead in minutes.

There are many that have been to AK and the UP, and they call the UP 'Mini Alaska'.
