Hi everyone,
I am in Texas and it is very rare to see men, or women even, wearing fur coats on the streets. It does get cold enough here, it's just a fashion rarity, and possibly a faux pas, to see men in fur coats. I just bought myself a nice fox fur coat to wear when I travel to colder regions in Russian Siberia and Alaska. Does it look weird for a man to wear fur coat in Alaska, or is it normal. I know that in Russia, especially Siberia, everyone wears a fur coat, men and women alike. What about Alaska? I've seen the native Eskimos wearing them, how about the general population? Thanks

We are practical in our outerwear. You'll see a thousand synthetic coats and bunny boots for every fur coat and fancy boots. The major use for fur are on parka ruffs.

I bought a floor length fur coat, a big hat, cane, cup, and boots so I'll be steady pimpin' when I get back to Alaska!

That is a photograph I would gladly pay to see !!!

The hunters of the arctic, mostly men. Their jackets are all fur, but the fur is worn on the inside. Their hats are fur (beaver) and mittens, gloves and cuffs are fur also. Boots are made out of fur, Yes Eskimos wear lots of fur.

General population ? I would have to say it is very rare; Special events will always have some people dressing differently.

I'll second what others have said; for coats people around here put the fur to the inside or use it as a ruff or trim. That goes for both Natives and non-natives. I've never seen someone here wear a full-on fur-to-the-outside fur coat in everyday life, it's just not very practical.
