I'm looking at moving up to Deadhorse to start a 3 week on, 3 week off job on the N Slope. Anyone that has experience or day to day accounts I would love to hear about it.

Thanks.

You work day in and day out; just like on any regular job. You eat the greatest food every day.

When you come back to the camp after work it is time to clean up - eat and go to bed to begin the same routine every day. Soon you won't have any idea which day of the week it is. By the time the 3rd week is over you will be glad to get out of there! As you slowly begin to run out of money you will be glad to go back to get more!

HAVE FUN & enjoy the routine! (you will gain weight)!

There have been many discussions/descriptions of camp life in this forum. Do some searches.

Actually, I don't know how to search. I looked for "oil jobs" but got a lot of ND stuff and then I searched "deadhorse" and got non oil related jobs

I don't think you'll be able to move there. Unless you plan on paying high dollar rent for a room at one of the hotels in Deadhorse. There are no houses to rent or buy. Plan on living in Anchorage or Fairbanks and flying to either of those on your time off.

No permanent residents are allowed to live in Prudhoe Bay/Service Area 10/Deadhorse.

My feeling fwiw is that any temporary on/off job is easily doable. It is the jobs that require you to live in the location 24/7 that become very hard. Pretty easy (assuming 12 hour shifts) like Sitydata says to just work then get off-shift to just shower, eat and crash. The extreme cold coupled with the desire to eat and little exercise does mean you gain weight, but if you are 3 weeks off you can just eat right and work out during off shifts to compensate.

Every camp has ample exercise equipment. The maximum time allowed to work / stay on the slope is 8 weeks. Then you have to go out. They rarely do that anymore; But it is still done in certain locations or for certain type jobs. It's easy to get burnt out working 7 / 12's

7/ 16's or even 7 / 20's is not that uncommon in certain trades!
