Hi everybody.. I asked this question before and found out that cingular does have good reception in anchorage.. but I need to know about fairbanks. The cingular website shows that the phones will always be roaming in fairbanks.. which is no good. I want to keep cingular while my husband and I are there.. but not if they dont work or are roaming all of the time. does anyone have cingular?? thank you.

One more month we leave texas on november 2nd!!

Cingular /ATT doesn't have a retail location here, and just started to offer local phone service. I don't think they offer local wireless yet. ATT just recently re-entered the retail market here in Fairbanks.

Cingular does have a pressence up here but it's 3rd party (like a radio shack or something) and they're a bunch of jerks.
If you're a current cingular/att customer, don't change a thing for now. Your phone will work just fine up here and you'll keep all your minutes.
You also won't pay a "roaming fee", just use it as you normally would.

ah good. thank you. I knew that verizon cellphones worked up there because our friend has one and his is fine in fairbanks. but to switch cellphone companies is a pain, especially if they make you pay the security deposit fee.

FYI, Cingular's presence in Alaska is technically called AT&T Alascom. Might help to check their website for info...

theres no cingular or ATT up here, so anything will be roaming outside your home area. Cell One will be bought out (in process) by ATT, but that wont happen prob for another 6 to 12 months

Found Alascom's website: AT&T Alascom
GCI is a good company for cell phone service, as is ACS, but I have heard nasty things about KPU. I don't know about the rest of them, those are the ones you can get in SE.

You can always use Alaska Digitel. Their phones worked everywhere else that my cell one phone didn't, even in Canada!

I have Cingular/ATT with the nationwide plan and it's worked all over Alaska. I never have been charged a roaming fee. Spent 3 months in Fairbanks this summer and it worked just fine. No extra charges.
