This years Iditarod is shaping up to be very exciting. So far it has been smooth going.....decent snow in most place...the burn was a little thin, but the steps, a traditionally difficult section, was loaded with snow.

The leaders are quite varied...from Dallas Seavey to the Norwegian Sorlie to the inventive older warhorse Jeff King. Lance Mackey...all but given up for the last year with huge medical issues, is running with the leaders once again.

It all feels good, and with the halfway point in sight, is setting up to be a tremendous run down the Yukon, up into hills, and then across the sound. Certainly there will be challenges not contemplated (nor encountered) thus far.

Stay tuned...and pay attention. The second half is going to make for some great racing.

4 mushers left in McG and the last 2 are completing their 24 hour layover in Nikolai. Almost the end to another Iditarod.

Lance is still in the race. He had problems with dogs having the squirts and with harnesses. He went back to OPHIR, took his 24 hours, and began moving again early this morning.

Pretty unhappy, by his own words, with the way he handled the situation, but he did what was best for the dogs once things unraveled.

He will push on and finish mid pack. The goal now is to get all 16 dogs to Nome.

Do you think part of the route should be moved farther north, in view of the absence of snow outside Anchorage? I don't know what kind of a logistical issue that would be, but the likelihood of inadequate snow is only due to increase in the future, IMO. What do you all think?

Jeff King and Aliy Zirkle's teams were repeatedly attacked by a snow machiner outside Nulato this morning. The mushers are both okay but one of Jeff's dogs was killed, two others injured, and one of Aliy's was injured. The person was identified and it sounds like they have now made an arrest.

Unreal. I cannot under what the f is wrong with people. So sorry about the dogs, but grateful Aliy & Jeff are okay

I call bullsh*t that he went back because he was sorry. If he was sorry why did he kill one of Jeff's dogs after he had already attacked Aliy more than once?
