you should be aware that you've got an alternative. Enjoy.

Seafood raised on pig feces and crawling with flies is being sold to U.S. consumers. As popular as shrimp is in America, very rarely do people actually pay attention to where it comes from. 100 million pounds of shrimp a year, 8% of the shrimp Americans eat, come from some of the dirtiest conditions imaginable.

Imagine a warehouse full of workers standing on dirty floors covered in trash, with flies crawling all over baskets of un-chilled shrimp in an un-air-conditioned room in September of a tropical climate.

I sometimes treat family to stuff from 10th and M and I just pay it, its a niche market and those crabbers earn it. I very seldom eat it but when I do or when I want to return a favor for out of state family friends I just know that its going to be close to $200 with the shipping.

Sometimes if you are local you can find deals at Costco.

Watch "Deadliest Catch." gives you some idea of why it costs so much.

Well, that as pretty much my point. People complain about the price of things, but the alternative is to literally eat $hit.

I am appalled at the production practices going on in Asian seafood processing. That's something to think about the next time you opt for the cheapest product.

Yum, yum... that organic shrimp sounds delicious

~Just kidding.

Anyway, I would stay away from the Chinese tilapia, too. I watched a couple of videos about the junk they feed to the farmed fish on that side of the pond.

I never, ever, buy or eat farmed fish. One exception though, so that I could voice an honest opinion, I had farmed salmon one time in a restaurant. Terrible! It was like eating a bar of mushy soap.

I always read the package or sign when/before buying seafood. Wild caught only for me, thank you.

How about Russia? Do you know if they export salmon? I would expect them to have some strong salmon runs in the Northeast, unless they've completely ruined the environment there.
