That may be. However, where you can actually take that rental car is limited either because there is no driveable road to where you want to go, or the rental contract does not authorize you to drive off "hard surface" or "pavement". Many many roads to recreational or scenic destinations are not paved. Read the rental agreement very carefully.

Easy to move to AK, not always easy to get out again after you spent your savings on frivolous stuff like food and housing.
