Don't worry, this secessionist will be in Alaska in the Spring to stir things up a bit.

New Hampshire doesn't seem to have done anything. It looks like a few kooks in their legislature have introduced a rather ridiculous resolution, which has been referred to committee to almost certainly never be voted on by the legislature much less passed.

You have to actually read these articles, you know.

If it were up to Northern NH the state would have passed it in the blink of an eye. Add in Southern NH (really Northern MA from the invasion) and it's trickier.

Because they are for state rights and American Freedom?

I believe that Oklahoma was the first state to introduce state legislation limiting the powers of the federal government within the state to such a degree under the 10th amendent of the constitution . I believe that was in June 2008. However eight out of 50 states is 16% that is significant, at least in sending a message.

Hawaii's interest is primarily centered around the illegal overthrow of the Hawaiian Sovereign Monarchy in 1893. This is strengthened by the fact that the independent nation of Hawaii had recognized treaties with many other nations at that time. Further, the overthrow was fueled by commercial interests backed by the United States.

In the early 1990's the United States recognized the illegal overthrow, and it's been a heated battle ever since. Unlike in Alaska, or much of America, there has NEVER been a settlement between the Native peoples of Hawaii and the Federal or State governments. One of the BIG issues in Hawaii is the 'ceded lands', these were lands set aside for the benefit of the Hawaiian peoples. This issue is tied up within the state of Hawaii.

HOWEVER the 10th Amendment is itself is not a cure-all. There is a difference of legal opinion on whether the Federal Government has overstepped it's powers. The 10th Amendment allows the Federal Government powers speficially given AND not specifically prohibited. There ensues the legal debate. Many states have agreed to much of what the Federal Government has done.

There have been numerous cases over the years where states have used the 10th Amendment to limit the powers of the Federal Government. So this is really nothing new. What is new is the wholesale attempt by these states to limit the powers of the Federal Government in all aspects.

It's not much, but it is an indication by the peoples that things have gone too far. I can see this leading to a re-examination of the powers of the Federal Government in a United States Constitutional Convention.
BUT let's not be so quick to 'throw the baby out with the bathwater'.

Now is also a critical time in the United States and it will be remembered in history - much more so than the 70's gas crisis, but not so much as the 1930's depression. History will remember the times we are going through now.

Just my personal opinion and observations - not intended to speak for anyone else, just me.

The line in the snow will be drawn at the Second Amendment. It's already happening -at Denny's of all places.
