I am from Alaska my husband and I are thinking about moving back up there we currently live in Alabama. We would like to drive but neither of us have ever had a passport, do we have to get a paper passport or can we just get the card?

Just get the paper passport, then you can travel the world in the future. The card is only good for Canada and Mexico.
