Ed...he did that because the entire east coast waters are already polluted beyond belief

I'm sure the Alaska right wing-nuts, including Young, Palin & Murkowski will be all over this before the end of the day

Keeping them outta Bristol Bay is perfect....now the pebble mine needs to be 86's also

Did anyone read my other post?

This means nothing for Alaska, and it's highly dubious if it will mean anything for the nation as a whole. The fine print seems to be saying he is open to more studies to determine the feasability of drilling in these areas. In other words, more make-work to keep government hacks employed doing endless studies in perpetuity (on the taxpayer dole of course), while the real economy continues to whither on the vine.

Maybe, but I prefer action to talk. Feasibility studies won't keep the pumps spinning on the pipeline, and the time for talk has already long since passed. We should have seen Shell begin drilling their new wells up there two or three years ago. More delays only push the state that much closer to the brink of financial collapse.

I'm a little confused about something, and maybe you guys can help me out: I've read that in 2008 AK's oil revenues increased dramatically, mostly due to increased taxes on oil company profits. I've also read that part of the cause of decreased production in developed fields is due to the effects of those increased taxes on investment decisions by the oil companies. So is it unfair to say that decreases in state oil revenues might be at least partly due to those increased taxes pushing oil development out of the state rather than delays in opening new fields to exploration? That's not to say that new fields shouldn't be developed (I think they should), but that maybe a more immediate solution would be to reduce state income taxes on the oil companies so they have a greater incentive to invest in Alaska rather than elsewhere.

You're busting my buzz.
Good points though. I'm still glad that at least something is being done.
