Hey everyone, I will be moving to Albany (Schenectady area) within the next couple of weeks and am seeking a good place of employment. I was hoping to get a job which pays at least $12/hour, somewhere in the $15-$20 however would be perfect. I was thinking of going for a construction or production line job since I know those fields pay well.
I realize that a lot of the time people end up getting a good job just because they know someone that can pull some strings to get you in good. I only know a couple people in Albany so I figured I would try and see if anyone on this forum could help me out on the job search. Some things you should know about me if you recommend a job is that I don't have a college degree (going to school next year for radiology), I am very good with computers (I can type 90 WPM on average), all the jobs in the past have been in the restaurant industry.. I was the head cook at Red Lobster, I bussed tables at Texas Roadhouse for a little while, I'm currently a delivery driver for Pizza Hut and I also do maintenance work for my town's parks and recreation department.
I consider myself a pretty hard worker and think I could be successful in pretty much any field, besides sales. If anyone could let me know of the places you think I should apply for a job at I would greatly appreciate it!

1. You're moving to an area that is economically depressed.
2. You don't have a college degree.
3. You expect someone on the forum to recommend you for a job.
4. You don't want to do sales.

Get real man. Best advice I can give you is to go on Indeed.com and do job searches. You can't expect anyone to help you out if you don't do your part.
Despite the ra-ra-ras I hear all over, the job market in Albany and the surrounding area SUCKS unless you work with mental health agencies, substance abuse agencies, and autism agencies.
Oh, wait, this is tech valley 2012...lol.
Sorry, just feeling very negative about this area. I just want out.
It's a sad world when you put in several search perimeters and can't find ANY jobs in ANYTHING you can do.

The OP may want to check Craigslist but most of them are scams.
Schenectady has a lot of hospitals tho -- I'm sure there are clerical positions in hospitals for somebody without a college degree that would pay decent.
I agree many could be scams, but it doesn't hurt to check out craigslist. My husband has had great luck on craigslist, working as a consultant, independently for over a year now, finding several jobs on craigslist. He also uses monster.com, elance.com
