Balloon Fiesta Park and the University area are on complete opposite sides of town. The closest Apartments that I would be able to think of would be Pinnacle Estates (different than the Pinnacle heights) and Broadmore. I am sure their must be closer apartments, but I would recommend Broadstone Heights. The former is north of Paseo Del Norte on Wyoming, the latter is a street east on Barstow, north of Paseo Del Norte. Westside apartments would be close, aswell as any apartments in the North Valley.

By chance, where is your son working? Siemens? Harrington Plastics?

Flash flooding isn't a huge issue in Albuquerque. It is a bigger deal in Rio Rancho and the most Sourthern Parts of Albuquerque.

I would look for hotels on North I-25 off of San Antonio, San Mateo, Paseo Del Norte and Alameda Blvd. This would include several good options. All of these hotels would be very convienent to Balloon Fiesta Park, but the closest options include a Holiday Inn Express and a Ramada Limited. A little further east is a Comfort Inn and a Staybridge Suites. These would probably be the very closest hotel options. The Holiday, Ramada, Comfort and Staybirdge are all on Alameda.

I hope I helped!
