Fairs and carnivals always seem to attract gangs. The Los Angeles County Fair which is happening now also gets a real bad element with police gang units out too. It's the one thing that makes us not want to attend, as someone we know was killed at the LA fair a few years back in the parking lot by gang members. Last year we attended the fair here in ABQ and got the same vibes, but had no trouble.

The one thing that annoyed us at the ABQ fair is that (at least last year) they were not selling unlimited use bracelets for the rides unless you bought a season pass for the fair, which was $60 I think.

In LA, you paid $20 for a bracelet for just a day and then could go on all the rides as much as you wanted. A day is enough - I don't need a season pass.

We bought a unlimited ride bracelet the other day, and we don't have a season pass to the fair. In fact, they were half price ($12.50) on Tuesday. Will buy another one when we go back this weekend.
I didn't feel the least bit unsafe at the fair. In fact, quite the opposite. Maybe we didn't go at an unsafe time. And we don't bother with the whole midway as we have a 4 yr. old to take on rides.

I always feel safe at the fair, but not in the Midway.

You're both right about the midway, and the only reason we were there was because...well, we were lost , first time at that fair, checking it all out etc LOL!

I knew there had to be unlimited use bracelets. Maybe we were looking in the wrong place, but, we went to a ticket kiosk somewhere and the sign had nothing about them and the woman in the booth told us they did not have them for just a day. Either she didn't know what she was talking about or they are doing things differently this year.

I think this weekend is the last days? We may try and get over there if we don't get too busy.

The fair ends on Sept. 21, so you still have time. We bought the ride bracelet at the first ticket booth we came to at the edge of the midway.

I went to the fair on Sat. and like I mentioned there were tons of gangstas around but I went again yesterday in the afternoon and I didnt see to many at all, but like someone mentioned the fair does attract the gangstas as every county fair I have ever attended in NM is like this.

We eat at the Indian village every year, its the only time I get my fried bread, here is a menu, I took this pic the other day- I also had a deep fried moon pie-- those fried treats are so good-

If you're lucky enough to have your weekdays free the fair has a nicer element of people

Nice pix btw I'll have to look for this Indian Village. We missed that last time around.

Hey all,

Thanks for the comments! I've been a bit busy, but I did get out to the Fair, and enjoyed the heck out of myself. I ate in the Indian Village - frybread rocks! - but skipped the fried Oreos and Twinkies. Maybe next time. By the time I got to them, I was too full from all the other crap I'd eaten.

I somehow missed the mechanical bull, though! Well, next time.

The bull is usually tucked somewhere in the Ag area (north of most attractions).
