My friend is a GA at UNM and she has been told me that there is a hiring freeze because of the budget right now. I couldn't tell you whether or not they'd hire you, but it doesn't sound like their budget is going to be in a good place anytime soon. They are really having trouble.

Hey, freshening up this thread to see if anything has changed since March.

I am checking out a job at UNM right now, and I am wondering about the U and any nice neighborhoods nearby. In particular, I saw a position in Geography, but it looks like the department is going through a big renewal. Anyone familiar with Geog at UNM? Are they still under a hiring freeze for most positions?

As for neighborhoods, where is the best place for hiking and biking on the E. side? We love being out in the outdoors, living, as we do, in Oregon. Six year old needs a good public school too. Any tips?

I would say the hiring freeze is more of a hiring pause. If you check their website right now they're hiring everyone from admin assistants to althetic coaches and MDs to support staff to marketing and PR people. UNM is trying not to create new positions, but it's filling a lot of vacant ones.

I can't tell you how many of those positions are just stuff they're advertising because they have to and they already basically have one of their own people lined up for it. I've heard that it's hard to get a job at UNM (health sciences and faculty positions excluded) unless you have an "in" there already - but some friends and family of mine got hired from the outside without any issues.

Hope this is of help to someone.

Hello,
I applied for an RN position at UNMH a month ago. I was interviewed and advised HR would call me in about a week (I think she meant if i was selected for the position). I haven't been called, but on their career website, my application is still pending. I have submitted all of the required documents and references, etc. From what I've read (I haven't been able to find a lot of info on people's experiences, ie on Indeed or Glassdoor), it seems like people who are hired usually hear something within 2 or 3 weeks. Just wonder if there is still any chance I might be selected, or if they definitely would have contacted me by now. Maybe there is no way to know...Thank you!

papillonailes, I don't know what that means, but I don't think it hurts to call and ask.

PS It would be less confusing if you started a new post for questions unrelated to the OP's question.
