At around 9:30 p.m., while on our way home from the play Bless Me Ultima, we had a flat tire. With the temps in the low 70's, we weren't put off at all by our misfortune.
Of course, the night before, the winds were howling.
This picture reaffirmed my desire to move to ABQ. I don't know what to expect, but at this given point of time I am completely ready to move out of the North East.
Same here! Except I do know what to expect having lived in Albuquerque for 4 years :P Honestly, I think the wind is the worst that the city has to offer, and that's not even that bad. It's actually pretty exhilarating if you can do a little hiking, get above the grit and dirt, and stand face-first against some 45mph winds
Thanks for sharing those shots, though they are making me a little jealous of your spring. So far IL's has been...damp.
Our Sunday in Las Cruces was much the same. Simply glorious. We had the kids do an Easter egg hunt in the park with a bunch of friends, grilled, it was a great, relaxing day.
On Monday and Tuesday I was in St. Louis. The second I emerged from Lambert Airport, that stifling, wet blanket air hit me like a defensive end hitting a quarterback from the blind side. I've never been to St. Louis before, and it was unseasonably hot, but humid as well. I could immediately tell the difference between the two different air masses. It's a big difference.
Yesterday, I got back off the plane in El Paso and stepped back into heaven. We really take weather here for granted. I know I have. There's a chance I could be hired and move to St. Louis. If that happens, I will miss the weather probably most of all.
Unfortunately the fires in the bosque have the city recommend not going outside unless absolutely necessary.
I remember the fires from around 2003 (2004 maybe? I forget..). They didn't seem to be that noticeable, but there were a lot of air quality warnings around. Any word on what caused these newest ones?
Whether they were intentionally set (arson) or accidental (improperly disposed cigarette, grinder sparks, leaf burning getting out of control) is the question.
On a windy, dry day like that, a flame the size of a candle-flame can turn into an inferno in minutes.
