Only five American whiskeys were won golds at this year’s International Spirit Challenge, most of which are surprisingly available. The 23rd year of the competition, which wrapped earlier this week, featured its usual rigorous blind tasting judging process as well as entrants from more than 70 countries around the world (they judge far more than just whiskey). These five award winners took home the highest honor for individual bottles and, for the most part, can be found at spirits stores nationwide.

I have no doubt there are those with very sensitive palates who may well detect nuances in whiskey or other things that would slip right past others. What I question given everyone's body chemistry is different is whether their choices would please the majority of others.

Ah....if you don't like most of those, you really don't like whiskey. Yes, there are going to like different things, but.....really....what is there not to like about any of these if you like whiskey.
The Colonel E.H. Taylor is probably my favorite overall right now....Eagle Rare if you can find that bottling is also good, but not one on that list is a bad choice. I would rank the Maker's at the bottom of the 5, but others love it.
Drinking a quart a day of some of that stuff would be an expensive habit.
And no one short of a very rich alcoholic would even think of doing that. Many of these are cask strength (often over 100 proof).
