I've had JW Blue. I thought it was lovely. I'm not a huge scotch fan though. I can't stand the really peaty stuff like Lagavaulin. I like Macallan and Balvenie.
Oh yes!! JW Blue is VERY good. My husband received a bottle as a gift and he's been nursing it along for over a year. We like JW Black, but Blue is really special...not just hype.
It's $235. at our store. How much where you live?
My dad has the exact same tastes as your dad did. My dad really isn't a big drinker- I think scotch is the only thing he drinks at all now. A neighbor got him into it. Perhaps scotch is a "guy thing"?
I'm not a guy and Scotch is the hard liquor I like best.
I liked the Johnny Blue, but maybe it's just because I knew I was drinking expensive stuff!
All Johnnie Walker scotches are blends, not single malts.
Ardbeg claims to have hints of vanilla, but I find it extremely peaty. You might prefer Dalmore, but can certainly find something more to your taste than a $200 bottle of JW Blue.
I'm not a big scotch drinker, but have tasted many while visiting Scotland & managing liquor stores. I love Glenmorangie on occasion.
If they're available, buy some minis before you invest big bucks!

In my 20s and 30s and 40s scotch was my favorite drink. On the rocks, later tried scotch and water. Not as good. Tried the expensive brands and finally settled for Chevas Regal. Now just a glass or two of wine!
Sorry, just being my anal, perfect-speller-self. Spell check rarely works with proper nouns.
And I forgot to mention Glenrothes, a scotch a wine drinker will appreciate. Sip it neat.
Cheers!
