I've never gone a whole day without eating in my whole life. Has anyone tried fasting? What's it like? I get hungry just thinking about it.

I did it once. It was a 7 day fast, and I lost 10 pounds. I was hungry for 2 days, and then that went away. I often felt spaced out. I won't do it ever again. I have a hard time fasting to go in for a blood test.

I have done it a couple of times before and its very tough to do. The first 24 to 48 hours are painful as the hunger pangs get severe do to your still using Glucose to fuel your body so as that is burning up do to no food its tough in that stage. After about a day or two then with Glucose gone the body slowly shifts to Fat or Ketones for fuel as i noticed the hunger went away however there is weakness as you just want to lay around.

You'll need something to sooth your stomach like some hot Chamomile or Mint Teas as i constantly sipped on these to help. I admit that i only made it to about 5 days of no food as i didn't like seeing my muscles disappear and also everytime you stand up you want to blackout so i'd have to bend over to my knees from blacking out for a sec or two as your BP will be very low.

Therapeutically is allows the body to go into ''Autophagy'' or self eating in which the body consumes all dead or diseased tissues (cells) , bacterias, plaques, malformed proteins or enzymes etc...as the Cells Lysosomes go to work and clean out the body.

When I was younger, would do quite alot of fasting. Was 5'7" and 120 lb. and thought I needed to be 112lb again! So would also fast for a week at a time. Don't do it anymore. Now heavier and probably not as healthy! Probably would not be a bad idea to just do a vegetable and fruit fast, and get good results also. You might want to go slowly, not cold turkey. Several years ago, I did wean way down on food consumption and lost alot of weight, but never did go back to real "fasting".

lilypad,

yes, i think you're right. i'd cut back gradually. maybe start with raw vegetables and then ease off from there.

i was slightly interested in it years ago and read a book about it. the book seemed to convince me that it is a healthy thing to do for most. i have gone a day or two without food (some fasts are less strict than others and you are allowed fruit juices or teas) but cant remember anything about it that would be of use to you. i am all for it as long as you are medically sound. for some people with certain conditions, fasting is contraindicated.
p.s. the hunger feeling goes away very quickly and when you finally eat again you should take it very easy or you may get a stomach upset.

I've done it a couple of times for 3 days at a time and the first day is the hardest.
I had headaches and no energy but after the fast was over and I slowly began to put food back into my body, I felt it was worth it.

My dad (no longer alive) passed away from cancer but he used to go on Welches grapejuice fasts for a month at a time while he was sick.
It's a good blood purifier.

Default macrobiotics

I'm a macrobiotic practioner. I eat and try and live a macrobiotic life style.
While its not a "fast" per se...I've done the #7 diet which is 10-14 days eating nothing but organic brown rice three times a day and a cup of twig tea before or after each meal.
We do this to detoxify our bodies. Some people call it a brown rice fast.
I call it a brown rice cleaning and I usually go 14 days.
BR has everything your body needs to survive healthfully.
What it does is brings your body down to the exact ph of a perfect blood level.
I learn a lot each time I do this cleansing which is usually twice a year.
