I have been taking trazedone and melatonin for the longest time. it just doesn't seem to work so great for me anymore. if i want to bed earlier than 1am, i feel nausea and then get sleepy when I take them. And then If I usually don't sleep until the alarm clock goes off. I need ways to have a good natural sound sleep. I heard for anxiety amino acids are good, but is there something I can buy that has amino acids? I just don't know what do and soon I will be starting a full-time job where I have to be at work 8am-ish every weekday.

We had a long thread on this one time. The only amino acid that I have heard of that really works for sleep is L-Glycine. It doesn't actually fix the insomnia but it will give you a better quality of sleep, a deeper sleep. L-theanine is another one, it's in tea but you can buy it separately too. Didn't work for me.

If your sleeplessness is caused by anxiety there's hops, chamomile, passion flower, lots of herbal remedies. Valerian root works for some people. You can try the two amino acids I mentioned but I am thinking that the best thing to do is to get tested for amino acid deficiencies if you think that's your problem. A naturopath told me one time not to take just ONE amino acid. I have also read that if you are deficient in one, you are probably deficient in others as well. Regular doctors don't seem to test for amino acids but some naturopaths do. Maybe some other posters can weigh in on this topic but I have had absolutely no luck beyond the great luck I had with L-Glycine. Have you tried magnesium citrate?

Maybe trazedone is stopping the melatonin from working or the dosage is to low or high?

i am dropping melatonin and trazedone. i think my body built up an immunity to them and i heard continued melatonin usage stops your body from natural producing it.

i will give magnesium and skullcap a try. any other ideas?

Update. Haven't been sleeping well, but my dad tells me cutting out trazedone cold chicken will result in sleeplessness so does everyone else agree I should off the Trazedone?

Skullcap and motherwort work for me. I purchase them online at Catskill Mountain herbs.

Not heard melatonin can do that. Mag can help but can also cause low blood pressure, FYI

Yoga and meditation help a lot with anxiety. Learning deep breathing exercises from yoga help to quiet the mind. We hold our breath when anxious...this does not lead to restful sleep.

For decent sleep, it would seem wise to get to the bottom of the anxiety.

And you're right, exercise helps. You can likely find a CD at the library for a home exercise routine and a yoga or meditation one.

No cost to you.

When I feel anixious, I find some of the relaxation teas help taken a half hopur before bed. Sleepytime, Tension Tamer or plain Chamomille. And a tablet or two of magnesium relaxes muscles. As does a hot bath an hour before bed.

But I suspect learning to breathe deeply can help with your anixiety as well as an hour of aerobic exercise to relax your muscles --whether done at the gym or at home for free.

Good luck! You can lick this problem with some effort!!
