I actually did have the flu this year for the first time since I was little. I took elderberry, vitamin d and c while sick. I also drank a lot of tea with honey. I do think it helped keep the symptoms more mild then otherwise. I had about 12 hours of feeling awful and I mostly just slept through it. For the rest, I was mostly just really tired and had an annoying cough for about two weeks.
I take homeopathic Influenzinum weekly during the flu season. If I feel like I'm getting a virus I will take Elderberry for a few days.
Avoiding coughing people helps too.
