Cuba is a Communist...monarchy! like North Korea : the Castro family is akin to a royal family, Fidel's younger brother succeeeded him , and Fidel's son ("Fidelito") is groomed to become the future head of state after Raul.
A Communist autocracy...and the leftists are giving us lessons of democracy! unbelievable! so gross!

Yes, not very different from North Korea...and not leftist at all. I would call the place Feudal.

You've got the Lord and the Royal entourage, the army and the serfs...and instead of merchants living in bourgs taking care of trade..you've got.."the Royal Entourage and the Army". The Jewish bankers are all the antiamerican loonies and crackpots that pay lip service and give money to the Castros to smear themselves with a false veneer of "Anti-imperialism"....

Cuba is the only Latin American country with colonies, Venezuela in this case.

The largest fiasco of them all....and very useful to caviar communists.

During 30 years, Cuba paid vacations to all pressmen in Europe and Latin America..of course, if they said something not pleasant, no more vacations with compañera included.

And they are desperate to gain another one: Puerto Rico.

The Puerto Rican independence movement is funded almost entirely by Cuba and Venezuela. A bunch of bearded old Marxists stuck in the 1960s who cannot get more than 3% of the vote because they refuse to accept the reality that 90% of Puerto Ricans desire a permanent union with the United States either through becoming our nation's 51st state or through continuation of the current territory (aka "commonwealth") status.

I suspect that most Cubans aren't interested in rebelling against the current regime because they realize that they would likely be a whole lot worse off under "freedom" and "capitalism" ... like all those folks living in cardboard shanties in the slums of such capitalist meccas as Rio de Janeiro, Port Au Prince, Mexico City, etc.
First, do you think there are no slums in Cuba? Please, the fact you do not know about it does not mean they do not exist. Brazil, Haiti, and Mexico more or less allow to document their poverty. Try to take a picture of any dilapidated neighborhood in Cuba. It will not be funny. Besides, in order to build shacks you need to have plywood or veneer and other basic materials which there are none in Cuba. Materials that you may find in any country of the world besides the US.

Second, Cubans do rebels against the system but again the system has a strong control of the media and whatever comes out usually does not make it to Hollywood because that would be against Hollywood rhetoric.

Third, Cubans tend to be happier in Miami under free markets forces.

But hey to each their own, if you really like there you are more than welcome to set shop in Cuba.

There are slums all over Cuba, in fact, most of the constructions made since 1959 can be classified as slums. There are zillions of dilapidated Soviet style buildings that are falling apart, they are called "microbrigadas" because they were built using the "voluntary work" of occupants. I lived in one of those microbrigadas, and it was a building of five floors, but water only arrived to the second floor, women had to carry buckets like in Africa while men drank rum.

In Havana, most of the inhabitants of the 48 slums are "illegal immigrants" with no papers. They are Cuban from the eastern provinces that have no permission to move to Havana, so they live decades without documents, with no rights. Immigrants from the east, mostly blacks, are called "Palestinians".

Slums are called "casas de cartón" and "quitaypon", but except in Havana and some other specific areas, sometimes it's hard to differentiate slums from normal houses.

There's a very curious contrast between prerevolutionary construction, beautiful houses and palaces, some falling apart, and the "revolutionary constructions", poor, simple, poor quality...Cuba indeed seems like Rome fifty years after the sacking of the Ostrogoths.

There's another type of housing that is very curious. Large houses of the rich and middle classes that left Cuba during the 60's were confiscated, and while Castro retained the best, the rest were squatted by families from the countryside that have divided those houses infinitely, some of those houses can host 200, while originally for 4.

All new houses have to be built with stolen materials, since the government owns all construction materials.gl

Jewish bankers were a traditional figure during the Middle Ages, they were the only bankers because the church did not allow christians to lend money.

I know that, but you seemed to say they do evil things.

There was also a prosperous Jewish community in Cuba, only a few remain since 94 percent left.
There's an impressive sinagogue built during the 50's and a very old one in old Havana, but Jewish Clubs and associations passed into oblivion, just as the rest of things.
A dilapidated Jewish graveyard in Guanabacoa, most for Sephardim that came from Istambul.
I have met some, but they had to hide or renounce to their faith during the 60's and 70's due to harassment, also Catholics were harassed until 1998.
Nowdays there are no problems in that respect, in fact, there are important Israeli investments in orange juice processing plants.

Cuba was on the brink of having a Civil Rights movement by the time Castro came into power. If Batista had remained in power I guarantee that there probably would have been a revolution or rebellion. So either ways Cuba and Cubans were damned if they do and damned if they don't.
