I'm coming up in August. That's the tentative plan. Stop rubbing the Europe thing in.

stick to the main highway as shown in the milepost. dont be in a hurry. try to do as much driving as you can in the light. there is a stretch around muncho lake (i think the 50 or 100 miles to the north of it) that has a lot of wildlife. i mean a lot. be very careful of this stretch. a good sleeping bag. it can get to 40f below zero on this drive. there are enough people traveling this road to get help, but you wouldnt last long without something to stay warm.

have fun, it is an amazing drive in the winter. plus, smoother roads and no road construction.

Ha. Good catch on not mentioning the..........you know. I might be in Montana in Aug if I start off at Glacier National park and drive the Icefields Parkway, which I have considered.

I have done that trip 4-5 times in past few years-twice last year. I would not have her travel alone in January. I wouldn't do it myself then. Until you have done it, it is hard to imagine how long the stretches are between places and it would be tougher in winter since so many close.
A friend did it in January his first time to Alaska and says he can't believe he did it. He had bad luck with temps in -40 and had to take the battery in every night so it would start in morning. He also picked up someone whose car had slid in ditch. He said they drov es miles/miles before finding a place open to drop the guy off and didn't see anyone.

I have also heard people say winter road is better.

You asked for our opinions. I'd have her fly. Sell her car and buy another in Fairbanks if she HAS to have one before summer.
