Yeah, I've seen hostels have 9 people sleep in a room before...but they usually charge by person and base it on length of stay.

Aren't hostels where you share a big room with a bunch of strangers...they had those in Australia...great for college students traveling but not a family with kids.

Indeed they are, some have private rooms, but that will cost more along with the per person fee and they most often don't sleep 9, though when we stayed in one with Lizzy along when she was small to visit man-guys daughter that worked there, we had double bunk beds with a shared bathroom off the room.

Mach, not to be rude, but why are you moving despite having nowhere to live, work, etc? Why move 9 people so very far up north without any idea how you will survive?
This economy is too uncertain for me to risk my children's welfare on a dream.

Not all, no. My son spent two winters in Europe and stayed mostly in hostels. Most of the time he had his own room and the hostels had communal kitchens and/or cafes. But the ones in the US are probably not like that and probably wouldn't be the best place for a family with kids.

I would advice that you leave the kids in the rental car and and say it's just your hubby, you and 2 kids or they will make you get a 2nd room.
Thanks this is valuable information to me.

I've stayed in a couple of hostels (but not in Anchorage). You share a bathroom and kitchen with people from all walks of life. Kind of cool for a single person, but maybe not so much for kids. There won't be any personal space outside of your room.

All cheap will get you in Anchorage will be drug addicts, alcoholics and criminals for neighbors. Trust me, I know. These people stay in motels because they can't pass a background test and rent a regular apartment.
